Karen Flagg Named Horizon League Women’s Basketball Newcomer of the Week
Youngstown State junior Karen Flagg has been named the Horizon League Women's Basketball Newcomer of the Week for her performance in YSU's win over Detroit last week.
Flagg, a Chester, Pa., native who played at Daytona State the last two years, scored a career-high 17 points against the Titans. She was 7-for-15 from the field and added six assists, five rebounds and a block in the 58-53 victory that moved YSU into sole possession of second place in the league.
Flagg ranks third in the Horizon League with an average of a block per game, and she is 14th with 3.2 assists per game. She has blocked a shot in 10 consecutive games. In league play, Flagg ranks second in blocks per game and eighth in assists per game.
This is the first time that Flagg has won the Horizon League Newcomer-of-the-Week Award. Her YSU teammate, freshman Shar'Rae Davis, has won it twice.
Youngstown State will play two games on the road this week in Wisconsin. The Penguins will play at Milwaukee on Thursday and at Green Bay on Saturday.
