Tournament Action Continues, as No. 6 Penguins Take On No. 3 Wright State Tonight at 6:00

The sixth-seeded Youngstown State men's basketball team advanced to the second round of the Horizon League Championship and will face third-seeded Wright State, Friday, March 8, in Valparaiso, Ind.
• Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. EST at the Athletics-Recreation Center and the game can be heard on 570 WKBN-AM and iHeartRadio.
• The game can also be viewed live on the MyYTV, the Horizon League Network, ESPN3.com and SportsTimeOhio.

Last Time Out
• Sophomore DJ Cole made a layup with 2.5 seconds left to lift the Penguins to a 62-60 win over Loyola in the first round of the Horizon League Championship.
• Cole finished with 13 points, four assists and two rebounds.
• Senior Damian Eargle scored 10 points with eight rebounds and a Horizon League Tournament single-game record seven blocks.
• Senior Blake Allen and junior Kamren Belin each had 15 points to lead the Penguins in scoring.
• Sophomore Shawn Amiker had a solid game with nine points and career-high nine rebounds.

Up Next
• With a win, the Penguins will advance to the Horizon League semifinals for the first time and take on No. 2 Detroit Saturday, March 9 at 6 p.m. EST.
• The game can be heard on 570 WKBN-AM and iHeartRadio.
• The game can also been seen live on ESPN3.com and tape-delayed on ESPNU at 10:30 p.m.

The Wright State Series
• This is the 47th meeting between Youngstown State and Wright State in a series that dates back to 1977.
• The Raiders own a 37-9 advantage in the all-time series and won the last meeting, 72-45 , at the Nutter Center on March 2.
• The Penguins won the two previous contests,  both at the Beeghly Center.
• The Penguins won, 68-61, on Jan. 23, and 61-54, on Feb. 23, 2012.

Scouting Wright State
• Wright State earned the No. 3-seed and a first-round bye after finishing 10-6 in the league player.
• The Raiders, who have a 19-11 overall mark, are led by Cole Darling with 11.3 points per game.
• Reggie Arceneaux is second on the team with 9.2 points per game.
• The Raiders allow just 58.2 points per game.

A Win Will
• Improve YSU to 18-14 overall and mark YSU's first 18-win season since 2000-01.
• Mark YSU's 10th win over Wright State.
• Mark YSU's first win in the second round of the Horizon League Championship
• Mark YSU's first win on a neutral court this season.
• Mark Head Coach Jerry Slocum's 673rd career victory and his 92nd at Youngstown State.
• Mark YSU's 1,026th victory in the program's history.

This Year Against Wright State
• The Penguins and Raiders split the season series with each team winning on its own home court.
• The Penguins defeated the Raiders, 68-61, at the Beeghly Center.
• Wright State defeated the Penguins, 72-45, on March 2 at the Nutter Center.

Guins in the Tourney
• Since joining the Horizon League in 2001-02, YSU owns a tournament record of 4-11.
• This is the second straight year the Penguins have advanced to the second round of the tournament.
• It also marks the second straight year the Penguins have been the sixth seed.
• The Guins own a record of 3-1 when hosting a first-round tournament game defeating Loyola in 2013, Green Bay in 2012 and Detroit in 2007 and losing to UIC in 2009.
• The Penguins are 0-3 in the second round of the Horizon League Championship.
• This is the first meeting between Youngstown State and Wright State in the Horizon League Championship.

Penguins Capture Awards
• Senior Damian Eargle was named the league's 2013 Defensive Player of the Year, junior Kendrick Perry was named to the All-Horizon League First-Team for the second straight year and selected to the All-Defensive Team.
• Junior Kamren Belin was named to the Horizon League All-Newcomer Team.
• Eargle led the league with 3.1 blocks per game overall and 2.9 blocks per Horizon League game.
• He averaged 11.8 points per game this season, also ranked fifth with 6.2 rebounds per game and fourth with 4.4 defensive rebounds per game.
• Perry was named All-Horizon League First-Team after finishing second in the league in scoring with 16.9 points per game.
• He also led the league in steals for the second straight season with 2.0 steals per contest and was named to the All-Defensive Team with Eargle.
• Perry also ranked fifth in free-throw percentage (.848) and sixth in assists per game (4.1 apg).
• Belin averaged 12.3 points per game against league opponents.  
• He ranked third among league newcomers in scoring in league contests; third in 3-point field-goal percentage at .446; fifth in 3-pointers made with 37 and fifth in 3-pointers made per game with 2.3.
• Belin is the first YSU player to be named to the league's All-Newcomer Team since Eargle in 2010-11.

Eargle Nets 300, Tourney Blocks Mark
• With seven blocks against Loyola on March 5, senior Damian Eargle became the first player in Youngstown State and Horizon League history to post 300 blocks in a career.
• He also set a Horizon League Tournament single-game record with seven blocks, and is just one shy of tying the overall tournament mark of eight.

Second Round=Historic Game
• By making the second round of the Horizon League Championship the Penguins will play at least 32 games this season.
• It marks the most games played in single season in school history.

Most Home Wins Since 1994-95
• The win over Loyola on March 5, March the 11th home win of the season for the Penguins.
• It's the most win since the 1994-95 team won 11.
• The last time Youngstown State won more than 11 games at home was in 1984-85 (12-1).
• Over the last two years, the Penguins own a 21-8 home record for a winning percentage of .724.

Allen Nearing 1,000
• Senior Blake Allen is just 28 points shy of becoming the 35th player in school history to score 1,000 points in a career.
• Allen has scored 972 points in his career for an average of 10.6 points per game.
• Over the last four games, Allen has averaged 15.5 points per game.

Clutch Cole
• Sophomore DJ Cole hit the first game-winning shot of his career when his layup with 2.5 seconds left lifted the Penguins to a 62-60 win over Loyola on March 5.
• Cole scored 13 points, including 11 in the second half, with four assists against the Ramblers .
• He made 4-of-5 of his field-goal attempts after halftime.
• Over the last six games, Cole has averaged 12 points, 3.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game.

Eargle - YSU's 34th 1,000-Point Scorer
• With 12 points against Valparaiso on Feb. 26, senior Damian Eargle became the 34th player in school history to score 1,000 career points.
• Eargle has scored 1,022 points, including 339 this season, in his three-year career at Youngstown State.
• Including his 268 points at UNCG in 2008-09, Eargle has scored 1,290 points in his collegiate career.
• He is the only player in school history with 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 300 blocks.
