Mike Accardi, Neil Schroth and Josh White had two hits apiece, and six different Penguins either scored or drove in a run. Four Raiders had two hits apiece.
After scoring six runs in the top of the first in Thursday's series opener, YSU struck early again on Friday with two runs. Accardi and Schroth started the game with back-to-back singles, and Marcus Heath doubled in Accardi two batters later. Phil Lipari then plated Schroth with a sacrifice fly.
Wright State cut the deficit in half with a sacrifice fly in the second and tied the score with a double, sacrifice bunt and ground out in the third. The Raiders then scored three times in the fourth to go up 5-2. Mark Fowler led off with a bunt single, and YSU pitcher Ryan Krokos hit Jeff Limbaugh to put two runners on. Justin Kopale moved them over with a sacrifice bunt, and Beau Phillips and Cody Gardner followed with run-scoring hits.
YSU left the bases loaded in the fifth and lined into an inning-ending double play sixth, and the Penguins had to settle for one run in the seventh. White reached on an infield single with one out, and Accardi was hit by a pitch and Schroth walked to load the bases. Drew Dosch then advanced everyone with a sacrifice fly, and Lipari followed Heath's walk with a fly out to left.
The Penguins worked out of a bases-loaded jam with nobody out in the eighth, and they had the tying run at the plate in the ninth.
Krokos allowed all five runs on eight hits in 3.1 innings in suffering the loss. YSU's four relievers did not allow a run and surrendered two hits combined. Joey Hoelzel allowed three runs on eight hits in 6.1 innings in the win for Wright State.
The Raiders and Penguins will play the rubber match of the three-game series on Saturday at 2 p.m.
