Watched the game against GB. Was a very competitve game. GB is just very good, and YSU made to many mistakes to beat a team that good, especially on the road.
The rest of the way, YSU ought to be favored in every game but the game at Detroit. And, the game with Detroit will likely determine which team finishes in 2nd place. That is important, because 2nd place in the HL means an auto bid to the WNIT. Very good odds that YSU will finish with 20 or more wins, a winning record in the HL, and possibly a berth in the WNIT.
At worst, YSU ought to finish in 3rd place in the HL. They were picked 8th place pre-season. Just 3 seasons ago, the team was 0-30. Year before that, 3-27. And, now they are a top 75 team in RPI, and with the exception of UWGB can beat any team in the HL. This is a tribute to the coaching staff, and the players, including the players from seasons 1 and 2. And, as bad as Martin was as a HC, she did recruit Brandi Brown, Melissa Thompson, Heidi Schlegal and Monica Touvelle. All 4 play a major role on this team, and Brandi will finish her career as one of the top 3 players in school history, along with Wanda Grant and Dorothy Bowers. So, while Martin was quite poor as a HC, her recruiting has played a role in helping turn the program around. Especially when adding in Kenya Middlebrooks, Tieara Jones and Macey Nortey, all of whom played major roles on last seasons team, and all 3 of these players have earned their degree from YSU.
