If we win next week at Murray State we are likely in the playoffs based on how the schedule will likely play out.  If we get in, we will do damage.  We will probably win the first 2 games.  That would mean we would finish in the top 8. 

If and when this does happen, I don't want to hear anymore bullsh** about the team and coach.  He's building a great program here.  Hes got to work with his coordinators and coaches.  They need development and that takes time.

Direct your anger at the AD for keeping Heacock who couldn't recruit but could coach.  For the record, dynasties are usually once in a lifetime events.  That's just reality

Power with the diluted conference schedule we should make the playoffs.  Wolford or Pelini never had this easy of conference schedule.
So if we go 5-3 we will either be the 4th or 5th best team in the conference. 
I know the top team the jackrabbits best Northern Iowa by 35 pts. We lost to them. 
I don’t know if Phillips is the answer but he needs a huge talent influx to get to the next level in our conference.
We will see.  But I said earlier in the year our D wasn’t great after I watched Ohio st and you said heck no we are so much better.  We aren’t on D and honestly that’s been our Achilles heal other than 2016. 
Murray St should be an easy win.  Then it’s up to the asshats that pick the teams. 


 

We are better on defense this year than we were last year.  Our problem is on the DL.  The secondary also has issues, but many of those issues are caused by the lack of pass rush.

Look at where we are statistically this year vs last year defensively. We are better, we're just not good enough to beat the top tier teams.  We need more recruiting on the DL and OL.  We have to be able to run the ball against anybody.

Here's what people need to keep in mind.....SDSU will not be the same team next year.  They graduate a ton of people.  I expect that there won't be such a dominant force in FCS next year.

I just at this years conference stats for D.  We finished 4th last year in conference. This year we are 8th plus we are giving up an extra point a game.  We have a weaker conference schedule.  So no we haven’t improved on D.

People need some perspective here, so I will give mine.

1. I don't think anyone beats that team this year (SDSU).
2. What people need to realize is we are better than 90% of the FCS.  The problem is that we play in a conference that's the absolute best of the best.  In general, whomever wins the MVFC is the likely winner of the national championship.
3. That had a team full of 6 year seniors and we are playing mostly Freshman and Sophomores.
4. I heard that Phillips was willing to speed up the transformation of the team, but was limited by the AD. In addition, His first recruiting year was shorted scholarships due to NCAA rules violations by Pelini.
5. If we get into the playoffs, and there's a chance we will (look at the remaining schedule) we would do a lot of damage in the playoffs.  We would finish in the top 15 easily.
6. We weren't aggressive enough against SDSU. It looked to me that we were trying to keep it close and get it into the 4th quarter, but they were able to shut down the run game completely. Then we were doomed.
7. We have legitimate complaints about the referees in this game. When they took that TD off the board, it was the turning point.

Keep the perspective.  We need a couple more kids.  We win will 2 more on offense and 2 more on defense (on the lines).

Power every year it’s the same conference is the best again what’s the point of being in this conference when we can’t get past the top 4 teams
The refs didn’t beat us stop it.
That team beat us as soon as they got of the bus.
Being better than 90 percent of all the other schools means nothing. 
We fricken didn’t even score.
Then Davidson post game press conference sounded like an ass saying they weren’t nothing special lol.  Then made the same excuse they had a lot of 6 year players.  Very sad.

This football program and the YSU administration needs to do some soul searching.  We have become a second rate school in the conference an afterthought to the local fans and it’s just excuse after excuse. 
If the basketball team can win another 20 games they have become the number one program at the school.

It kills me to say it.

Power we got handled on Senior day and shut out.  We are more than 4 players away from being at upper tier level in our conference.
Issues next year?  Whose. Our QB?  We need playmakers on both sides of the ball, The defense is as bad or worse when Wolford was here. 

Next year will be another rebuild.  I heard a comment that we only had 1 transfer last year lowest in league.  Which in our league transfers are important

Don’t get me on the dumb play calling when Brungard was in even a toddler knew he was running.

Epic fail from coaches, team, fans, athletic Department, marketing of this game. 
Season is done.  SD did what the wanted and even disrespected us by doing the Penguin dance on us
 
Dollar General budget, gives you this product. Offense has no explosive players other than Oliver, average Rb’s and a system QB.  Defense what Defense.

We will never be an upper tier team in this conference.  Ever. 

How long are we going to stay in a conference that has literally blew up this program and other than a lucky catch  has done nothing but be everyone’s homecoming game. 

Just upset sorry

Again the apologists voice the same excuses. Refs, mistakes, conference to tough to win on the road.  We are better than ever really.  We beat this team by what 20 at home last year I think we beat them the last 2
Times.

Okay so if they are better why?   We spotted what a 24-3 lead it happens over and over.
You have a coach that is clueless on managing time management. 
You have a coach that at times needs to coach like on that last drive.  He gave him that win at end of game.

Our D had idenity.  Nobody fears it.  They do want they want.  Philips hasn’t found a qb and if I think Brungard is the answer  lol.

Not being negative we have seen this over and over  when are we going to see that this conference isnt a good fit.
Even Wolford alluded to this and said he was trying to recruit where they recruit.  Especially for lineman.
But for some reason you guys think being here is the right thing.

All ii can say is look at crowd on Saturday. look at the chatter in here and what do you see is a football program
that is not a player in FCS, the local community that has no interest  at all.
Next year will be a circus unless he finds a good QB etc

Penguin power you are 100 % wrong,  Calhoun has. Brought total excitement  to the basketball program.  They were filling up the bleachers and there was a buzz for the team,  We are winning  plus he plays COACHES  AN exciting style of play.

 The fans back a winner in Youngstown it doesn’t matter what the sport.  Even the junior hockey team sold out during the playoffs and the won the championship.


I feel it seems the football program  generates  very little interest  even I have lost interest.  How long are we going to live off the  90’s .    It’s time to clean house get new blood from the athletic  dept, the marketing  dept, and even clean up the sidelines on the hangers ion from that area  Penguin club.   Other than the Tressel era and a  run in the 70.$. Football has been mediocre.

Fire Strollo Fire Phillips

No need to mention strolllo here. This one is all on Tressel. Do you want to bring him back and then fire him? Lol.

You can blame Strollo for running the program into the ground. Phillips is doing a fine job considering the starting point. Because the program now doesn't have the money to pay for the best, you have to endure a learning curve.  Deal with it.  He will be a great long term coach that brings stability to our football program. 

Unfortunately we play in a conference that's just completely brutal and is so good it actually downgrades the rest of the B1G because the MVFC steals those players.

We are far more improved, but we are missing that explosive player on both sides of the ball.  Need to upgrade the DL and the secondary coaching

You hit it in the nose I said beginning of the year we don’t have a legit homerun hitter on offense.  We have a few good ones  but we don’t have  that special sauce player. 

But the game management hurt us tonight.  Coaching wasn’t used those last few minutes.  We had timeouts use them Coach dammit. 

I said all along as long as we are in this conference we will struggle to be in the top 3.
I stand by what I say
Nothing makes me puke more than hearing well we play in the toughest league, blah blah blah.

There’s no flag or trophy  for finishing  4th or 5th every year. 

The fans are tired of it and honestly a lot of the diehards are as well.
We keep making excuses for Phillips but what’s scary here is.
He hasnt recruited 1 good offensive skill player since he’s been here!  He had a couple of. Good transfers and a steal with the Rb we had last year. 
King is ok 
But his HS recruits at the rb and QB?
Defensively we have transfer LB that’s decent and 1 Lineman
We still have too many penalties.  Nothing really has changed much
Like someone said. 6-5. Or 7-4 that’s what is.
We still dont have any identity either.

Agree with  a few other posters.  Poor game management on our last drive.  Plus that false start by the senior tackle was a killer as well.

What made it even worse was we played in prevent it looks like we rushed 3 guys on the last 2 plays I think on  interference call we did. Plus i knew they were going back to the same area to set up for fg.  Poor coaching there and i almost forgot didn’t we go for it at mid field in the first qtr and we lost field position if we punted and u think  that played in their first score For SD.

This is 2 games we blew now on the road.  We need to win out now or stick a fork in it for any chance of the olayoffs.   The better coach win today.  Their coach won 2 D2 championships and it showed today.  Ours coached like he was still coaching the Salem Quakers

Still watching the game got home and game stsrted haven’t read comments of game thread.  But I’m impressed with graphics different stat graphics and with their crew of announcers .  Puts our production as very mediocre  and honestly our crew is boring.  YSU used to have a hell of a media center back in the day.  But it’s pretty bare bones on production now.  We always talk we are an elite program but  we are far from it these dsys

They got a bunch of transfers.  They have several Ohio and Florida kids now on their roster.

So what  if this team is better and deeper as per some of your assessment shouldn’t be a big deal.

Should be a win.  No excuses

When you look at the players getting honors across the FCS, we don't really have much in the way of those awards.  Makes me think that we really play as team a d the success is shared for whoever can take it.  It think this will be a tough game.  That's why they are played. 


However,  what I was eluding to is.......how did we let Ohio kids escape? Why don't we go after more FL kids too?

It seems we aren’t really recruiting any Florida kids anymore.  Don’t like that.  As for the Ohio kids  that’s on Coach P to close the deal.
