YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: South Dakota Week
« on: October 16, 2023, 08:48:25 AM »
Check your facts.  Ysu never won gateway but did win a championship under tressel while in gateway.  Heacock did win Gateway (Mvfc) twice
Including a good run as fcs runners up in 2006.  Similar run in 2016.  Anytime we make playoffs we go deep.  Why? Strength of mvfc! Realistically  though that makes it harder to win regular season games.  Go to the games, support the team.
Look at it another way. How many NFL players came out of Tressel era?  2 I can think of.  Wilkins and Delgianis.  Today we have 4 players we are following who played here in the last few years on active rosters and making a difference in the NFL. Rivers, McLaughlin, Ogletree and the lineman from last year.  We also had Moss, Rader and the db rivers who went to NFL in the last few years. No question we are more talented than the 90's. It's fun to watch. Go guins.

Quote posts so people know what in the hell you're talking about you look stupid cause my post in view is 100% accurate. I was actual posting with my gut feelings not my knowledge at first.

UR Obviously a Tressel hater and an Ohio State fan because that's all I heard from those dumb asses was how many NFL players OSU has and how many YSU has, my reply was "who gives a f*** hairless nut!" NFL players and Conference championships who gives a f*** really?! None of that is translating into a playoff spot. Play well enough to get in and run the table.

I bet UNI would trade their 16 conference rings and many NFL players for YSU's 4 rings and 3 runner ups  :o

Talent level at YSU is spotty at best.

Oh, and using your analogy Heacock was the best coach in YSU history :) Thinking about it he's 2nd for sure.

"Leave No Doubt!"

I disagree with any negative comments on here. Bottom line this was a very good team. We played well to come back.  Made too many mistakes down the stretch. Those things we can fix.  We have more talent now than we did in the 90's unfortunately in our conference there is a ton of talent. Tressel could not even win the Gateway. It is hard to win on the road. That being said, we need to learn to do it. Also, did anyone think a few of the big calls that hurt us were the wrong call.  The targeting that was reversed was textbook targeting.  The facemask on offense I didn't see. The league / refs already sent us an apology for allowing Northern Iowa to win on 2 illegal shifts that caused us to jump offsides on critical downs.

Great points!

WOW typical dumbassery on this board.. Last time I checked Tressel coached 4 years in the "Gateway" Won the national championship 97, National runner up 99 and got bounced in the 1st round in 2000. Who gives a sh** if you win a conference when you make the playoffs   SMFH !  :o Heacock is the only coach to win the Gateway/MVFC crown and did it 2x's

YSU is a shell of itself, shame crap different year. The diehard fans that have followed YSU forever are even sick of this display of football.

Even the exciting roundball team sh** the bed when it counted last year LOL!!

Other than that GoooGuins and "leave no doubt"!

Every medical expert in the world has acknowledged the severity of this crisis.

It has been officially declared a pandemic.

The President gave a special speech last night to address the issue and is preparing an epic economic and public health response.

The Governor of every state is locking down all major public gatherings.

All major festivals, events and meetings have been cancelled.

Entire professional sports franchises has ceased operations.

But the YSU Forum regulars are not fooled!

They know it's all just a hoax and a conspiracy by the left and the fake liberal media.

The ignorance is astounding.

Please stick to sports.

This forum has lost enough followers.

We won't get fooled again🤫

A medical doctor told me today that this has the potential to be the worst outbreak of disease in the United States since the Spanish Flu epidemic of 1918-1919.  That disaster inflicted millions and killed over 500,000 Americans.  Of course, modern medicine is much more advanced and we have antibiotics today to treat complications.  But we have absolutely no protection from this virus.  This doctor believes that unprecedented drastic measures are necessary to prevent widespread suffering in this country.

Do you believe him? Not going to get political here but H1N1 infected over 60 million and ~ 16K deaths in 08-09 under obummer,,, nothing to see here.

USA becomes the #1 economy in the world and a new virus shows up with little to no symptoms for healthy people. The sky is falling chicken little  :o

Football is a loser, especially in FCS. Nobody cares anymore. The 90's are gone.

Nice Troll,, MBB sucks, always has, and always will. Lost in round 2 to a team that Larry, Moe, Curly, Stevie Wonder and Stephen Hawking (RIP) could have given a better game,, Just sayin  fb

And YSU had a home football playoff game and had 6,000 people. I love football but the interest is gone.

Nice! Like I said at the top of the thread. I meant this to be a positive thread "BUT" in usual fashion the Raw Raw board makes it a Youngstown sh** storm  ;)

Let's keep it going,, 6K is 5,891 more than MBB brings in

Can't believe how the world of YSU sports has become so upside down!?

I believe it's a great thing that Track, Bowling, Baseball, WBB and even MBB (hasn't had an above .500 record since I was in diapers) are doing well. Football the $ sport and YSU's bread and butter has suffered so bad the last 19 years  :-X

Let's hope this is contagious and Football makes a come back!  fb

GoooooooGuins!!
"Football the $ sport and YSU's bread and butter has suffered so bad the last 19 years  :-X"  A couple points, Football is BY FAR the most expensive sport for YSU and I would bet it is a money loser NOT maker.  Second, How may teams in 1AA football have a 12 win, National Final appearance while sufferin so badly?"

Ummm ok.

Even the 2016 season was kinda f***ed up with the ticket gate episode and all. Did you go to Frisco in 16?

I had 4 extra tickets my buddy here at Fort Knox (NDSU fan) gave me that I couldn't give away.

I meant this post to be a positive not a normal Youngstown sh** storm.

Carry on.

All I see is cheap and unqualified. Hope I'm wrong.

WOW Chief! You're either trolling Pally and or Penguin Nation to regurgitate this onto the other board or you've become an inside hater?

So far I've heard:

Troy Rothenbuhler- OC

Joe Schaefer- DC

Kenny McClendon- DL

Kory Allen

All coaches with minimal if any D1 or FCS coaching or playing experience. Not sure how to feel....

Feel good! Like I said the bar isn't set too high the last 19 years, so only upward and onward! Can't get much worse unless we lose to weenie teams,,, oh wait the last coach accomplished that  fb

I believe hero sports ranked Crenshaw as the top QB recruit in all of FCS as well!

3rd best QB, 40th best player overall.

Tariq Williamson. 6-3, 240 DE from Akron East also received a top 300 rating 132 to be exact.

Go, it became clear when I saw his salary, that we were not going to go after an experienced group of coordinators and this is upsetting to me. This is what a mean by a national footprint. It is not as if YSU is a dominating team anymore and recognized by many players nationwide.

Also, this does not mean that I will not get behind our new staff, I am already there. It seems as though coach P is doing some homework and look how many mistakes coach Wolf made going after a nationally known experienced candidate at DC. Yet his regional hire at OC, turned out to be a sensational choice. It is becoming equally clear that JT is more involved at this point, he is a recognized commodity.

You're killing me Smalls! How do you figure that Wolfords OC was any better than the DC? I know you love Monty but face it he had a huge problem in the MVFC as all the coaches and assistance had since YSU entering the MVFC. Monty's O put up incredible numbers during the weenie schedule but when it came time for when it counted (MVFC schedule) the statistics fell drastically. JT was the only coach YSU had that did well in the MVFC which yielded ~ 97 NC, 99 Runner up NC, 2000 1st round loss to Richmond. Since JT Heacock's 06 run and out right MVFC championship ring was his glory. Wolford's 5 years zero zip nada! Bo 2016 run with Wolf's kids and a bit of JT magic was his glory.

Thanks for your attention!

Red: You are just continuing on with your "hatefest". Anyone with any brains only has to look at coach M's record. The point that I am making is that I thought we may go more national with the assistants and did not. I am showing how the big name hire out of Florida was a big bust, while the Ohio guy proved to be very successful. I am hoping we will see the same this time around.

Dan Dan Dan,,, I even thanked you for paying attention. There is no "hate fest" Monty was not the superstar coach you make him out to be. His record alone debunks your argument. As the O-coordinator here, his offense was offensive when it came time to play the big boys in the MVFC no more no less. My brain is not clouded by delusional thought for some high powered offense that didn't exist under your man crush.

Bottom line: I'm pretty excited to see if the new guys are better than the old guy's. The bar isn't set to high for them considering the last 19 years.  fb
