As we know DP has not utilized the portal in the past but now he has to get aggressive and rebuild a gutted, although, weak defense. Again. Not sure if it was coaching schemes and lack of preparation, lack of talent, lack of attitude, or a combination of all of it but this is where we are today on college coaching and sports.

Do you have a link to the portal?

My thoughts are it's both coaching and talent... YSU was way small and too weak up front. The secondary would have been better served having Stevie Wonder back there at least he could have bumped into someone.

Let's hope the coaching staff and talent on D gets upgraded.

As they always say: don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

On another note: the portals I've seen with all FBS players on it has no shortage of QB's. I like BB and think he can do the job. Him and the other young gun slingers may need another year...

We'll find out soon enough "IF" this D project will work.. Nova is the 1st game of the season in Philly. Although they lose 26 6th year SR's so there is that.

Not worthy of it's own thread but yesterday proved why auto-bids are a major joke.

Drake wins the Pioneer and loses to a third place team from another league 66-3.

Duquesne wins the NEC and gets bounced by a team that was the fifth or sixth team to get in from another league 40-7.

I am not bashing these teams or leagues, I'm sure that they look forward to the chance to play, but that just is not reality. Giving these leagues a spot is keeping another deserving team at home. Play-offs should be about the 24 best teams.

There was 10 auto bids. 6 of the 6 that played Saturday lost!!

Austin Peay - ASUN-WAC (UAC)
Gardner Web - Big South-OVC
Duquesne - NEC
Lafayette - Patriot
Drake - Pioneer
Nichols - Southland

4 other auto bids are seeded

16 teams left all from 4 conferences. MVFC, SoCon, Big Sky, and CAA.

Incarnate Word is Southland. They are very good. Lafayette played very well lost on the last  few seconds.

And? UIW didn't make the playoffs and Lafayette lost to a crappy Delaware team. Just sayin.. Need to dump the 24 team auto and go back to the best 16 teams with a strict criteria for the playoff spot.

I was at the 1997 game. Many from the valley traveled to the game and stayed at a hotel owned by Ron Jaworski. At that point we had more fans than ever so a large group traveled. Their field at the time was at the level of a typical lower tier high school stadium. Not sure if they play at the same place or not. We were behind big and I think got a blocked punt and Harry Deligeonus (sp) wrecked havoc on their qb from the Dline position at the end of the game. He was unlockable.  Great win. The trip home that night was terrible with a snowstorm making driving a challenge, but we were all happy!  Hope we can repeat this Saturday.

Small group of us are going. If I can make it from Louisville KY, the drive from Y-town is half as far!!

Got the win today, now on to Villanova! Should be a tougher test than Duquesne and Villanova will be the favorite as the seeded team. But I like the fight in these penguins!

It honestly felt like more than 3800 were in the stands. I was going to guess closer to 5k.

Anyway don't get too down on the attendance figures Thanksgiving weekend is just a bad weekend for small college football. I've been going to Mount Union playoff games for years, and thanksgiving weekend is Always sparsely attended compared to the rest of their games.

It's a combination of travel plans, students not being on campus etc.

Didn't look like 3800 on the tube..

Last game of the season and a must win for a playoff look on the bottom of a bubble.

1. I'm wondering why Brungard is not the QB of the future?? sh** this kid has not had the chance to show anything but run when everybody and Stevie Wonder knows it. I'm no talent scout but in spring ball he looked the best out of all I seen.

2. The Guins are still too small to play in the MVFC i.e. compete with the x-Dakota's and UNI. The eye test and diminishing stats show it to be fact. Davidson is a delusional or total team player to make an asinine comment like we are as big, strong and fast as SDSU.. Fast?? maybe/ but I saw receivers wide open cause DB couldn't run with them. How many penguins were pummeled and laying on the turf by getting smashed by superior size and strength.  Size does matter. Hell, Indy state was pushing the Guins around in the trenches. Can't run between the tackles when the O-line is pinched down and stood up. USD was beating the O-line all game with a 3-man rush.

3. Coaching staff.. wowsa. not too stellar.. I blame the AD.  Cheap Local talent gets you that product.

4. Schedule.. Need to get rid of the weenie games "IF" keeping the $$ game. Being 7-4 would be a lot better beating a name brand 1FCS team or two instead of Jerry's kids and the blind center. finishing in the conference 5-3 is a killer.

5. Referees!! Wowsa.. The bad non-calls are what was killers. SDSU had plenty of calls against them but not enough. The TD pass I heard the whistle as the ball was snapped (26 rows up in section 3). The SDSU guy slowed their aggression..

6. YSU student and fan base sucks can't say it any nicer. We have the faithful (me) and a few hundred in the tailgate lot. other than that, it's wishy washy and the invention of ESPN Plus is killing the casual fan at the gate.

7. Murray State is not hapless. We'll find out "IF" this team wants to be in or not by what they look like Saturday.

Prediction 34 - 17 YSU

It might be too optimistic for defense to only give up 17 points.
We didn’t do well against tall quarterbacks (the SIU 5’9”” QB couldn’t throw our DL while other 6’ 4” QBs killed our D).
How tall is the QB from Indiana State? Just asking….

Probably see the 6-2 freshman Owens he's the one who almost pulled off the W against UND..

Yes, YSU should be excited about hosting the Reigning National Champs and all, but I'm going to keep myself under control till the blue trees are in the bag. This game will dictate how many fans will show up. The Guins Road record is not to stellar and especially in Terre Haute as of lately... On paper and the eye test favors the Guins..

There is nothing more important than winning the conference. If you are one of those "play-off only" fans; is there a better way to guarantee yourself a play-off spot? Also, home games? Wm the conference!!

Dan stop, you and the other Crum geeesh.. I 100% agree winning the conference is great and a guarantee for the playoff. I'd like to see the auto bids for conference champs go away! Take the best 16 teams by SOS, eye test and whatever other factor they can come up with this water down 24 team including the auto conference champs sucks. YSU always buys home games, usually to the semi-finals that when the seeds come into play. so, there will always be home playoff games "IF" we ever get there again.
