YSU Penguin Athletics / You know, there is a game on Saturday
« on: October 05, 2011, 12:04:17 PM »
The silence on this board about the South Dakota State game is starting to confirm my worst fears about the Indiana State debacle.  That performance drained all the energy and interest out of the program.  The impact on casual fans is especially drastic.  How many of those do you figure watched the Indiana State game on tv: 10,000, 20,000, more?  Of that number, how many turned it off before the end of the first quarter?  Televising road games can play a useful role in stimulating interest.  But it can also smash interest if the team performs as poorly as we did in Terre Haute.

YSU Penguin Athletics / 4:00 starting time
« on: September 04, 2011, 08:47:46 PM »
I would be in the stands if we kicked off at 3:00 in the morning, but does anybody else feel that the 4pm starting time for September games is absurd?  People here are conditioned by high school games for evening football, at least during warm weather.  These 4pm starts are going to cost us at least 2,000 per game.  Fifteen to twenty years ago, the athletic department sent a survey to season ticket holders asking their preferences for starting times.  I recall that the overwhelming response was for a 7pm kickoff in September to mid-October, followed by 1pm later in the year.  4pm had no support whatsoever.  If anybody thinks that 4pm is a good time, please give me your reasons.

YSU Penguin Athletics / report from the first scrimmage
« on: August 13, 2011, 12:07:24 PM »
Just returned from watching the first 90 minutes of the scrimmage.  I will just describe what I saw without editorial comment, so that you might draw your own conclusions.  The offense had trouble moving the ball, scoring only once in 90 minutes.  55-guard Lamar Mady was not dressed.  Starting O-line was Radakovich and Main at tackle, Herdman and Elkins at guard with Pratt at center.  Later, Franklin was placed at tackle with Radakovich sliding over to left guard and Herdman out.  Freshman Zach Conlan was the center on the second unit.

Multiple receivers were used with two freshman, 2-Christian Bryan and 82-Kintrell Disher getting a lot of reps.  However, Disher sustained a shoulder injury.  He was being iced with pads off when I left.

On defense, it is impossible to predict a starting d-line as seven or eight men were shuttled in and out.  At linebacker, first unit consisted of 4-Travis Williams and 7-Ali Cheaib on the outside with Sasson in the middle.  Taylor Hill is off the roster.

2-Davonta Davis and D'Alesio were at the corners, but D'Alesio was, strangely, playing with a black shirt and making no contact.  1-Garner and Josh Lee started at safeties.  Juco 21-Aaron Taylor was on the second unit at safety and juco 5-Jeremy Edwards was in shorts and did not play.

YSU Penguin Athletics / Question about WATTS center
« on: July 05, 2011, 10:11:38 AM »
For those of you with access to the athletic department, has any tentative date been established for an "open house" for the WATTS center, once it (finally) is completed?
