YSU Penguin Athletics / Post Game Albany thoughts
« on: September 16, 2012, 07:56:44 AM »
Boy from the sound of this board you would think we lost 59-0.  We have some of the worst most unrealistic fans on this board by far. the D isnt going to play perfect every week, especially vs a team who made the playoffs last year.

-the 2nd Half D was very very good outside of the garbage time FG, Shutout Albany

-the Offense was very good in the second half, but terrible game planning hurt our chances to win, the game should not have been as close as the score shows, you cant keep running the ball when they are shutting it down, Cook went from 110 3 TD first half yards to 51 0 TDs second half in almost the same amount of carries (18 in first half, 15 in second half), 52 Rushing attempts to 22 Passing attempts is why we only scored 10 points in the 2nd half after scoring 21 in the first half

-there were 2 plays in this game that could have changed the game around big time
-Shaws Fumble at the 32, the way our offense moved the ball in the first half, we probably have 28 or at the very least 24 points by halftime insted of 21 and Albany might not have the momentum to score a TD so we could have been looking at a 28-14 Ball game at half
-the blocked punt, we probably just run down the clock or at least try to after the punt, but if we dont block that punt we could have seen OT and maybe lost, or only won by 3.

-YSU dominated this game in the 2nd half on D, and in the 1st half on Offense

-I really think YSU looked ahead to UNI, Confrence game, a team we dont history play very well, which could be why the D played so bad in the 1st half, then dominated the 2nd half. QBs just dont go from 14/15 to 9/21 in a 15-20 minute span (Halftime)

-I really dont care how bad people want us to be Tressels power running-defensive teams, as long as this staff is in place it will NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER come back. Understood? stop crying about the way we play, with the staff in place its never going to change, get over it, deal with it and move on. its 2012 not 1950

-Now looking ahead to UNI, They are not the UNI of years past, they are struggling on D giving up over 800 Yards to Iowa and Wisconsin, who are both very bad teams (yes both are 2-1 but Wisky could very well be 0-3 right now and Iowa. They dont score alot but they dont give up alot either, i really couldnt care less what they did to DII Central State, thats worse then Valpo. UNI needs this game in the worse way, if they dont beat us, they need to win out to make the playoffs, so they will be ready and have their A+ game

-UNI really struggled to run the ball on Wisky, only 34 rushing yards by their RBs and only 94 Yards vs Iowa they also struggle to stop the run giving up 362 Rushing yards combined vs Iowa and Wisky, so the game plan should be clear, Run, Pass about 6-8 more times to open up the run and keep 7 out of the box like Albany started to play in the 2nd half, and stop the pass

YSU Penguin Athletics / Northern Iowa Week

Football message board, Be polite if you join folks

gonna be a Huge game, UNI needs this win pretty bad otherwise they could be 1-3 and 1 game into confrence play, they really cant afford a loss next week if they want to make the playoffs, meanwhile YSU hasnt beaten them since 1998 IIRC but last year if they had a 6'2 RB insted of 6'3 the story might be a little bit diffrent

hopefully we see the 2nd half D for all 60 minutes next week

YSU Penguin Athletics / YSU Football starts 3-0 for first time since 05
« on: September 15, 2012, 06:47:20 PM »
Great 2nd half by the D only giving up 3 points, terrible 2nd half play calling to keep running the ball, if not for a blocked punt who knows who would have won since we got our TD due to that short field 4, Hess should throw the Ball no less then 25 times a game, Cook was held to about 50 some 2nd half yards and no TDs because Albany knew YSU wanted to win this game on the ground

the D had alot of injuries in the 1st half, at one point playing most if not all of the 2nd Q with 5 D starters out till half, i know 2 came back in to finish the game

on to UNI, hopefully with a new offensive game plan, this weeks plan wont get it done vs UNI

YSU Penguin Athletics / Kurt Hess Records
« on: September 08, 2012, 06:58:38 PM »
9 TDs away from Career TD record (should do it vs NDSU)
2,300 Yards away from All time passing yards (should get it this year, had 2,400 last year)
4,200 Yards away from All time total yards (should get it next year)
20 Total TDs away from All time TD record (should get it this year)

its scary to think not only can he break 3 Great YSU records this year, but he can also win a NC, do it with a much better completion % then Jeff Ryan (Ryan was 57%, Hess was 64% last year) and in 1 year less outside of all purpose yards. By the time he's done here IMO he's going to put those records so far out of reach its going to be hard to see anyone breaking them. i think he has a legit shot at 90 Total TDS and 9,000 Yards which would be Remarkable (48 TDs and 5,200 Yards away) i figure he's going to get 20-25 more TDs this year and around 2,500-2,800 yards

YSU Penguin Athletics / Fresh QB Jeff Clegg
« on: September 08, 2012, 03:43:32 PM »
As i posted this in the recruiting form, im not sure how many check it so i figured i would at least try to get some discussion going. 6'1 200 4.45 (yes you read that right) from local Berlin Center
heard from one of the coaches about 3 weeks ago not to be surprised if he beats out Angle and Wargo in 2 years after Hess is gone. he is RS This year but the staff said he has looked like a star in the making, strong arm and very fast, and runs hard like Tebow when he gets hit with contact, said he's a Youngstown Throw Back QB, Hard working, dedicated, and talented.

he passed for almost 2000 yards last year with about 30 TDs, 2 Ints, ran for almost 600 Yards with 13 TDs and no fumbles.

i spoke with a coach from WR last night before the game who talked to Montie (Sam Montgumory SP?) to ask how Jeff Clegg was doing, said Clegg would be the #2 QB if Hess was a SR because then they could play him in blowouts or if Hess gets hurt but he can sit for a year and compete for that job next year, Sam loves that they can RS him this year for him to learn the system and play book for 2 years before he starts, but he's done nothing but impress the staff,  one coach compared him to Otto Graham, said he has a will to win no matter what, runs like a RB (and DBs have trouble tackling him), but has good enough QB talent to play QB at this level. they really feel like they got a steal with the kid and he was under recruited because he was so small and played at such a small level of HS ball.

i also want to put at least 1 freshman at every spot so there might be some local kids who are already heading to YSU on the team but still in HS but you obviously dont have to use them

under spartankoa for the 360

YSU Penguin Athletics / Some Freshman standing out
« on: August 25, 2012, 02:41:51 PM »
got some close sources on the team just wanted to share a few things

heard Wargo has looked very good for a True Frosh, Strong arm and really accurate, staff wants to RS him but he might pass up angle if practices like he has all year

heard Nolcox is a freak of an athlete, 6'5 220 and has been timed under a 4.4, its too bad he cant catch otherwise he might be a fantastic WR but staff feels like they got a steal with his size and speed as he can cover bigger WRs or the TEs in college

Jordan Feeser also sounds like he's impressing, at least catching the ball anyways, needs work on blocking but looking good early

Not surprised Wheary is in the 2 deep this early on, it sounds like he's a faster christian bryant, smaller WR but sure hands and good route runner, been timed in the mid 4.5s

Trgovich has looked very good on the DL vs the run

Anthony Szymczak has been an immoveable force up the middle vs the run

this was a great recruiting haul for Wolford and will pay off in the near future
