I don’t want to see us fail.  But we don’t have the money to be what we used to be.  Even our student population is what like 8800 and they with fees give 70% of our athletic budget which is even less than what Akron students give.  We are not understanding the economic hardship we are dealing with.

I’m sure that Phillips can recruit better but in reality now we need to play 2 money games which are losses and we all know we will lose at least 2 games minimum in our conference.  So we are for the most part starting with hoping to go 8-4, or 8-3 maybe once in  15 years 9-2.  We are just idiots for continuing to think we can be a big player in our conference,  as for the comment that one of our teams in our conference is renting a stadium shows you how f***ed up FCS is.  Dropping down to the OVC will help us not hurt us.  Or whatever.  No kid grows up wishing to play in the MVFC where we recruit.

People don’t care what conference you are in!  When YSU was D2 during the Narduzzi and Dempsey playoff runs Fitch stadium was full.  When we were an independent the stadium was full.  All programs need fare weather fans that is what fills the stands.  Winning creates excitement. Yes we will probably get some lineman etc.  but are we going to go 9-2 or even 8-3 and win a couple of league championships in 8 years.  I doubt it.

We aren’t going to be good or relevant for years.  It will not be fixed unless we get more money?  Playing in the toughest league means nothing when you have only won it what once or twice in almost 30 years. Look at the stands no interest.  Even the diehards have dwindled down to almost extinction.  You all think we will strike lightening in a bottle again.  The 90,s run was once in a lifetime and college football has changed completely with more teams more media etc etc.  The state of Ytown has shrunk immensely.  Look at how Wolford focused his recruiting. He got it, just didn’t get the money needed to continue the rebuild .  Again we want to run a top flight program on a Dollarr General budget.

It’s not a lot of money and since we are an FCS school we don’t get  the big bucks for the money games.  Fan attendance basically the loges are the money makers. Fans in the stands the last few years doesn’t generate much revenue.  The students fund the athletic dept and I laugh when some fans make fun of MAC schools we couldn’t fund a division 2 program with what we get from the casual fan.  Same for our Penguin club compared to the heavy hitters in our league very little support lack of people joining her compared to them.  The Youngstown fan is cheap and always has been and with the declining business and fan base if not for the students we would be in a lesser division.

Here is what makes me sad.

We won 4 championships and of all the Dominant FCS schools we parlayed them for what?

A 4000 other side of the stadium.

Apply St.  moved up
Georgia S moved up
Marshall moved up
Boise moved up

We haven’t done sh** in 20 years other than what 2 playoff appearances.

I have said this countless times we are in the wrong conference.  We have no chance of ever winning it for years. If at all.

They will use us as a schedule filler for every Homecoming that’s what we have become.  Being in a tough league means sh** if you don’t have the resources we are like the missouri and S Carolina of the SEC they ain’t winning sh**.  We when we were dominant we should of made a move to a different league or hell we should have started one.

Couple of quick thoughts?
What did Coach Wolford have when he recruited?  Why could he find offensive lineman?  I know the year he got released he said he was actively going to recruit lineman prospects from the upper Midwest. He to to compete in our league size and length was essential.

We all know he could recruit. So instead of blowing it up why didn’t we ante up to get better assistant coaches. Isn’t that the AD job to find$$$.  If you think about it our line was pretty good after 5 years of recruiting by Wolford.  In my opinion till we increase budget we will never be a top 3 team in this conference.  Year after year we say the same things about the lines.

I never said Crenshaw can’t be the answer.  But he is missing short and long and his throwing mechanics are bad.  I guess that’s why he wasn’t a 5 star recruit lol.  Teams are not going to let up.  Let’s get it fixed.

Don’t you think Crenshaws throwing motion and footwork are an issue it took like he is throwing side arm and straight arming his throws.  You would of thought we could have worked that out by now

We pay Dollar General Salaries for our Assistants.  You get what you pay for.  We struck lightening in the bottle with JT it’s not going to happen 35 years later the economics and FCS has changed hell I think the year we won it there was like what 76 fcs teams etc.  Money talks and we don’t have it.

Just a quick thought JT had no Coordinator experience either when hired.  I couldn’t find anywhere ion the internet who the original assistants were.

Clutch FQ by the kicker.  QB looked good but let’s see how he progresses now that there is game tape on him.  Where would we be without #8. Who calls the plays does Phillips?  I feel Kliacek is back lol!
