Excellent reply; many fans are tired of the mediocrity in our basketball program.

Horrible is not the word for this home schedule - it is down right shameful for fans who do attend. I don't care how many special incentives the athletic department announces, it won't draw any people to attend those" big named" teams. Every year the home schedule gets worst. No wonder we can't recruit well, who would want to play home games against these teams.

Who would have believed it, YSU came into the championship series 12-36 overall and 6-17 in conference play. Then get outstanding pitching and a little luck to win 4 straight games!! Talk about a Cinderella team winning; this team was sure one.

Way to go penguins!!!

Way to go Quinlan!! Where did he come from; a complete game also. I'm still skeptical of our pitching, but maybe someone else will step up. Also Shane Willoughby is finally beginning to hit. Way to go Shane.

Great win!!

GO PENGUINS!!

I'm always hoping that they will  improve, but one pitcher had 11 wild pitches, hit 10 batters and walked 33 - that's totally no control.

Several pitchers have averaged 3 or less strike outs per 9 innings. That means the opponents are making a lot of contact with the ball.

Ten (10) pitchers had ERA's over 6.00 WOW, that's not going to win many games. I played for Mr. Rosselli and hardy anyone had a 6.00 ERA. But, at that time we used wooden bats, not the metal bats of today.

The good news is baseball records can change quickly from year to year depending on the quality of pitching. They must have control, good breaking balls with control. It takes good coaching and intensive practice to become a good pitcher.

Yarabinec looks like the real thing, he looked great this year, but he needs 5 or 6 more good pitchers to turn next year's season around. Maybe a couple remaining pitchers could improve, but it will be a challenge.

I believe we must get some new recruits who have shown good fast balls, control, and braking balls at Quad 4 schools or very competitive junior colleges.

Why did the girl's softball team win so many games this season - Casey Crozier; she is gone next year and look for far less YSU wins.

Fan:

It's about time! This team has had another deplorable baseball season. The pitching has been pitiful with the exception of a couple good relief pitchers. The offence has left a bundle of runners stranded with the bases loaded.

YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: 7-footer transferring to YSU

I am not too excited yet, we have 6'9 and 6'8 players who probably couldn't play NAIA basketball. They are slow an can't jump over a dime! These guys should have been doing jumping exercises everyday. So will the new 7'0 footer truly impact the team like Ricky Tunstill did years ago.

Yes, we definitely need an inside force that can play defense and average 8+ points a game. Will this guy be the man???

Congratulations to the YSU Athletics Dept!

Wow, won the Men's Outdoor Championship, the Women's Outdoor Championship, Women's tennis championship and the track & field teams were awesome with Bobby Grace getting a lot of national attention.

Great to see the progress!!

GO Penguins!!

I believe Jim Tressel will be the next president at Akron Univ. He hast a vast amount of contacts that will help Akron. As for YSU, it will our lost for not getting him earlier. But to your point guinpen, Jim stills loves Youngstown and has many friends here. He would be a big supporter and ally for YSU joining the MAC conference.

Fan0505: Thanks for the correction on Webber's junior year, my error, something told me it was his senior year.
It still is a major loss and I enjoyed seeing him improve this year with ability to drive to the hoop. He also led in 3 point percentage; he will be missed.

This is a huge disappointment losing Webber to a transfer in his senior year! It appears the basketball department is totally inept. What in the world is going on? There has to be changes in the basketball program, if you what people to get excited about YSU BB.

As to the player who transferred 20-30 years ago, I believe your taking about John Keshock - he was the best pure shooter on any YSU team I ever saw. He transferred after the 1985 season to Vanderbilt.

Fantastic game coach Barnes and ladies!!! This team has done wonders and doesn't even have S. Davis. Barnes has those girls playing exciting basketball.

Keep it going girls!!

Well FAN:

It started and YSU has 19 points after the first half, it was terrible!! I had to turn it off. This team is going backwards.

I live a little east of the Charlotte area and right now it is snowing cats and dogs! We have about 7" on the ground and still coming!

The area is paralyzed, no one but emergency vehicles are out. Tomorrow this storm should be gone. (I hope). Friday is supposed to be in the high forties, and a little warmer for Saturday and Sunday. They may get to play Sat. and Sun.
