YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: Any news on basketball schedules?

And yet another insignificant idiot heard from. Indy, if you have any bkb questions, send me a private message so we can circumvent these idiots.

Tough talk grandpa from behind a PC.  The only thing you're good for on here is insulting people.  I'm guessing you wouldn't call me that to my face

Another quality post by bigred--out of 3050 posts, maybe 3 had some actual substance. Indy, I heard we're playing at Penn State, and have return road games with Samford, St Francis, Toledo, and Buffalo. UC-Riverside has to return the Bracket Buster game from 2 seasons ago and our Bracket Buster game this year is on the road. We also would be going to Bowling Green from last years Bracket Buster, but that might be delayed until 2012-2013.

That's 3 more than you

According to what I read, there are new allegations from his days at YSU in the SI article which may be released online tonight.  OSU's bball program is being targeted also.  It is rumored that up to a dozen more players were involved in tatgate and also traded memorabilia for drugs.  The Dispatch justput out that the NCAA is digging deeper on Pryor

YSU Penguin Athletics / YSU-Michigan State set for Friday night
« on: May 05, 2011, 02:08:51 PM »
Labor day weekend.  Copied this from a Michigan board...

Michigan State will open its upcoming football season with a Friday night game against Youngstown State, kicking off at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 2 at Spartan Stadium. The home opener will be televised nationally by the Big Ten Network.

MSU's first meeting with the Penguins originally was scheduled for Sept. 3.

“We’re extremely excited about this special opportunity to kick off the 2011 season with a nationally televised game against Youngstown State,” MSU athletic director Mark Hollis said. “Over the years, fans have expressed increased interest in kicking off our home football schedule with a Friday night game on Labor Day weekend. We believe it will be a positive experience for our entire fan base, including the student body, and we couldn’t pull something like this off without campuswide cooperation.

“Since Michigan (K-12) schools don’t begin fall classes until after Labor Day, the vast majority of high school teams will play their football games on Thursday that week, making this a great way for our fans to kick off the holiday weekend. By moving the Youngstown State game to Friday night, it’s also our hope that the state tourism industry will receive a positive bump since most fans will now have the opportunity to make plans to enjoy the entire Labor Day weekend.”

As a Michigan fan, I'm really enjoying it all.  Yea, Tressel has Michigan's number, but he finally has what's coming to him.  He will not survive this and the NCAA will eventually bring down the hammer on him and the O$U program.  He brought sanctions to YSU and was lucky to survive the Clarett fiasco.  Teflon had several opportunities to come clean, but decided to cover it up and take his chances.  His once squeaky clean image is forever tarnished.  Liar, Liar, Vest on fire

Does anyone have a link to the Hannon article?

The Trib is reporting that this is a grades issue, and Williamson will be attending prep school.

I never understand people that think attending a small college will be the solution. The bottom line is that small public schools (like YSU) do not have the funds for "fluff" programs. We are ahead of many our size with GE programs and such. A large school has hundreds of majors ...not just reading, writing, and arithmetic.

Article is about Edward Killingsworth and not Williamson.  At least I don't see Williamson mentioned

On Manny, he was a Tommy Amaker recruit and had trouble at first adjusting to John Beilien's system.  I don't think he and Beilien saw eye to eye a lot and Manny was benched a couple of times for off the court issues and was benched many times during games for his lack of defensive effort and streaky shooting.  IMO he wasn't ready for the jump to the NBA, but he wasn't quite fitting in with Beilien and his system so he figured on giving the NBA a shot or at very least playing in Europe. He is very athletic and can create off the dribble, but he's lean and small and most figured he would have trouble matching up with the bigger guards in the NBA and his inconsistent outside shot doesn't help. I didn't watch the NBA much this year, but if I remember Manny did have a couple 20+ games?

May be a better defensive prospect. Lot's of speed. He will be all conference in special teams his first year. Did they say how many years he has left?

He's still on Michigan's roster, but I've read through my paid Rivals site that he plans on leaving after classes end this week.  He was redshirted so he has 4 years left.  Ray Vinopal is leaving for Pitt, but is also still finishing classes at Michigan this week

His old DB coach from Michigan is the DB coach at Pitt now.

Don't know why Ray would follow him, Tony Gibson is a terrible coach

Ray is a very hard worker and overachiever.  He was a RichRod recruit, 2 star Rivals, and questioned by many as to why he was recruited.  He wasn't even supposed to sniff the field except for special teams.  But, due to attrition and injuries in the secondary he got his shot and made the most of it.  He performed better than many thought.  Ray is a sure tackler, but average in coverage.  He was a true freshman so he was learning on the job.  If he decides to transfer to YSU, they are lucky to have him.

From the presser today....
"Ray decided to go back to Youngstown, and that issue is more of a family issue," Hoke said.

Vinopal appeared in all 13 games last year, including seven at safety. He started six games and notched 33 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, one interception and three pass breakups.
