YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: Kurt Hess
« on: October 03, 2011, 04:30:41 PM »
The decade of the 70's had the best quaterbacks!

They produced Ron Jaworski, Cliff Stoudt and Keith Snoddy all three had long professional careers. Ron and Cliff in the NFL and Keith in the CFL. All three have been involved in championship games.

Remember back in the 1970's Youngstown State only scheduled 8 or nine games, thus setting passing stats then versus today's players isn't comparable. Today's players play 11 games per year as a mininum and have a possibility of many more. Thus in a career today's players may have 12-16 games more than players in the 70's

Will Kurt Hess be as good as Jaworski and company depends on the team's performance the next two years and if he gets to play in the Senior Bowl or East/West Shrine Bowl. If selected to one of these post season Bowls and he shines to the pro scouts eyes, he will be drafted in the first 5 rounds. That would give his chance to be a Jaworki.

Time will tell.

YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: YSU vs ISU in-Game Thread
« on: September 24, 2011, 06:05:24 PM »
Our defense on the right side of the line was terrible, Sahir Bell loved going right!! Yes, he is a great runner with speed, but he had 4 huge runs that destroyed us. :-[

YSU's passing defense can not keep up with ISU's receivers!! Yet, ISU's defensive backs keep up with ours step for step.  :(

That fumble by our lineman on the one yd. line was super huge in ISU win. :'(

Well we still have seven more games to win.

Down in North Carolina, we lost the video in the 3rd quarter. We had to go to the audio.

YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: Key Stats for ISU Game
« on: September 22, 2011, 05:23:54 PM »
Fan: Great job compiling all those stats. I believe some of the intanigibles will be the determining factor as to who wins.

Some of those intanigibles are:
* Penalties, especially at critical times
* Turnovers
* Pressure on the quarterbacks
* Desire
* Luck

All in all, it should be a close game, but I am affraid of their running back (Shakir Bell) even the name is scary. ;)

As guin4 stated; turnovers killed us last year, but there is no doubt Indiana State has improved from the days of old! Our passing defense still has holes and ISU's QB will find many of them. Hopefully we will get a couple turnovers this year.

All in all YSU will prevail in a squeaker.  YSU 30 - ISU 27

Go Penguins we need this away victory!

YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: Latest Top 25 Poll as of Sept. 12th
« on: September 12, 2011, 03:02:14 PM »
Just by hammering Valpo, YSU is now on the radar screen for the FCS rankings. They are 35th in the Coaches poll and 31st on the Sports Network poll. Note No. Iowa is 2nd on both polls.

Thanks happyPenguin and Fan for the update on the injury list.

This game should allow everyone on the team to see some time on the field and allow us to try some new play patterns.

GO YSU ;)

Does anyone know the injury report from the Michigan State game?

I saw Ekweremuba make a great play early on in the game , but did not see him return. What is his status?

The defensive did a great job on the MSU running attack, but was very porous against the passing attack. Ekweremuba is a force on applying pressure to the QB. I also saw Pat White get injuried and didn't see him back into the game. He did miss a pass thrown right into his hands.

All in all the team looked better than at the Penn state game last year, so YSU should have a cake walk against Valpo. YSU 45 - Valpo 7

YSU will be better defensively this year, but Michigan State will score 31 points. The turnovers will be critical and may help YSU.

Michigan State will prevail 31-13.

Good Luck Penguins!!

YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: Men's basketball schedule released per TV-21
« on: August 17, 2011, 08:00:46 PM »
The 2011-12 basketball appears pretty weak!!

We play 8 of our first 11 games away. Two of the home games are with Notre Dame College (Ohio) and Fredonia St., why give the home base fans such poor competition? We're supposely improving our schedule; ha ha. :'(

The fans need one or two good opponents at home every year, all the other Horizon teams do. Our we too cheap to draw or pay for some top 50 teams or at  least teams we have heard of?

Anyway; good luck penguin basketball.

It is great that Perry and Brooks are excelling in the Pittsburgh league, but there will be one big change when they come back to YSU. In the Pittsburgh league: it is fast paced and the scoring is usually 90+ points per game.

Coach Slocum plays a slow and very delibrate game, this can take players out of their comfort zone. Changing the tempo of the game can impack the players.

Playing in the Pittsburgh league will improve the players abilities and I hope for the best in the upcoming YSU basketball season.

YSU Penguin Athletics / Phil Klein
« on: June 07, 2011, 09:42:54 PM »
It was nice to see Phil Klein selected in the MLB draft. He was selected in the 30th round by the Texas Rangers.

Even thought YSU didn't have a good baseball season; Phil Klein pitched well!

Good Luck Phil  :)

"Heavens to Murgatroyd"; Blake Aquadro did a super job in relief!!  :o

We have a good chance to win another one if Phil Klein pitches, but it will probably be the last win for this year.

Good Luck Penguins  :)
