I merged the topic. So who we getting?
-
I suggest an alternative headline:
YSU IMPROVES BY THE DEPARTURE OF THE DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR
-
Mercer is a lateral move if you ask me. Although, he most likely got a raise and is in recruiting rich Florida. Not to mention the defensive roster at YSU was poached of players.
-
Good news. Defense was pathetic anyway. Mercer not getting an upgrade of any sorts. Now the question is who will be our DC after this. Internal promotion or outside hire? It will have to be an outside hire in my opinion. Pay is low though
-
I wasn't suggesting we were losing anything just thinking out loud. I'm scared to see what might be next.
-
JT should be available now that he has retired……Lol
-
Given the financial realities of modern college football, our only reasonable option will be to hire an ambitious, successful defensive coach from D2 or even D3. A guy that wants to test his abilities at the highest level of FCS football and also get a pay raise. The last thing that we need is a retread who failed in DI and is just looking for any job. Also an internal promotion would seem insane given how awful our defense was.

Losing our special teams coordinator/outside LB coach, too https://footballscoop.com/news/sources-mississippi-state-bolstering-special-teams-staff-hiring-youngstowns-evan-harvey
-
Will make John Haneline previously co-defensive coordinator, the Penguins' top defensive play-caller. Coach Phillips still needs to fill the positions vacated by Brown and Harvey
-
This is like loosing most of the D players. We ain't loosing much. Special teams have been OK but D not so much. Ufortunate,y we will have all new players and all new coaches defensively and new QB RB and WR. Might be a tough start to the season.

This is where I disagree Go, it would appear to me that losing the special teams coordinator is a big loss. Special teams have been improving the last few years and was REALLY good last year.
