YSU will always be near the bottom of the league with Coaches like Slocum, he is probably a good Div.11 coach, but to be a winner in Div.1 you need extremely good coaches. Look at the College of Charleston in South Carolina. They went out and hired Bobby Cremins a proven retired coach at Georgia Tech and look at their success. They beat Clemson and Tennessee away and have other major teams on their out of conference schedule. Cleveland State paid big bucks for their coach.

I don't think YSU will ever spend the $$ to hire a proven Div.1 BB coach or a Div.1 BB proven assistant coach. So we will continue to have lackluster win/lost records, poor schedules and poor attendance.

We do need to have more money games to help recruiting.

UNI is doing the right thing by having two money games. It not only brings in a lot of money, but it will give a great boost to future recruiting. Players want the chance to play BCS schools especially Penn State/Ohio State and the likes. It will give far more media exposure and possible TV appearences.

YSU should schedule two money games a year, maybe they might just win one and get national recognition. Many schools like Boise State did this and look where they went. They may only play 5 home games, but they will make far more money with the extra money game than having 4,000 at a home game in inclement weather.

Yes, we are lacking an inside game, but there are other deficiencies. Against a better team we are woefully short of fouls attemted. In the Buffalo game, YSU took 13 foul attempts while Buffalo took 29 foul attempts. We must step up the driving and penetrating to the hoop to get opportunites at the foul line.

Duke and other top 50 team win many of their games by shooting far more foul attemts than their opponents.

Three point shoots are OK, but you must be able to do both consistently if ever your are going to be a great team! Having teams shoot more than double the amount of foul attempts than you will usually put you on the losing end!

Adding a good inside man would help the situation.

Montana up 28-10 at the half. Northern Iowa had their opportunities, two interceptions dropped, also two passes dropped. Then, Montana got their confident and stepped up the intensity on offense and totally controlled the game and the tempo.

Montana has a great return player (Sambrano), he runs with true intensity and Montana gets great field position every time he carries the ball.

Absolutely no penetration, all we attempt are 3 pointers. Coaching must allow the players to play an upbeat tempo game and make things will happen, I didn't see this happening.

Chojnacki is still lost! He needs to learn to be agressive inside or just sit on the bench. I had to turn the video off, I couldn't bare to watch anymore.

Maybe they will rally since I turned the game off.

I agree with you about Chojnacki, he sure does not impress me. He played 17 minutes against Detroit had 1 rebound and was 0-2 shooting. He is totally lost out there. Slocom is trying to get a big man to help out for future games, but Josh has a long, long way to go to help us in horizon league competition. :-\

Fan: Detroit to dedicate the new court against St. Johns on Monday Dec 5th.

Apparently UDM is having personel problems with some serious injuries and discpline problems. They have started off poorly losing to Akron, Bowling Green, Notre Dame and G. Washington. They still have some good players with Ray McCallum and etal. I believe they are currently somewhat disfunctional and YSU can take advantage and eek out a win. We will have to click on all cyclinders and that includes Brooks.

Good Penguins!!

Pittsburgh Penguin and Pita are both correct. We do play Michigan St. scheduled for 2013 and with Tressel gone, we probably won't see any more games with Ohio State for a long time.

This like the 1930's scoring, YSU very poor shooting. Infact pathetic and Brooks looks like he never shoot a basketball before.

I started to watch by video the 2nd half. I am not impressed with what I see. YSU looks pathetic - poor foul shooting, 7+ minutes without scoring, and had to call timeout because they couldn't beat a backcourt press.

The team lacks quick ball movement and very little cutting through the middle. If this is what we can do against a weak Div 11 program, we will have another very poor year in the Horizon!

Fan:

I think you are dreaming! North Dokata State's defense is extremel good and should hold our offense. Many things could happen during the game ie. a turn over at a crucial time or a penality. Somehow we find a way to lose.

NDSU 27  YSU 21; I would love to be wrong and we pull off a big upset!

Youngstown State is ranked #25 in the FCS Now Poll; maybe is is a good thing not being ranked in the Coaches Poll. ;)

Excellent rebuttal on the Tressel comments. JT is a fine person and has not committed any crime. You must know him to understand that he is good moral man and with good intentions. Players violated NCAA rules and Tressel made a mistake by not informing the proper persons.

The Vindicator summed up Saturday's YSU game and season very well; "Youngstown State's playoff hopes died suddenly Saturday afternoon at their home at Stambaugh Stadium. They were five games old."

Well I guess it's time to think about basketball.  :-\
