Va Tech losing to sPitt 21-0 last time i checked

21-3 half
Would be great if Pitt hangs on--#13 ranked VaTech is the highest ranked team on Pitt's schedule this years--so many have predicted a 1 or 2 victory season for them --with a few miracle wins they can still win ten. :o

21-10 now

No he is not correct, the Saftey was not playing out of position he was playing up to stop the run.

The S's assignment is to stop the run or force it inside if it is a run running play, or to drop in pass coverage if it's passing play. The sooner the safety can make the determination the better his chance to stop it, but he needs to make the read.

The S is supposed to key the end man on the line of scrimmage to determine the initial read to determine if they are running or passing. If they are passing and the defense is in man coverage the S needs to find his receiver.  If the defense is in zone then the S has to drop back into his zone as fast as he can and watch the receivers coming into the S's coverage area.

If the S reads a run, then his assignment is to either make the tackle, or force the run back to the inside so the rest of the team assist.  If the ball is run to the weak side of the defense  then the S needs to stay home to cover a reverse or counter.

YSUGO is correct, he was not in position.  Don't tell me how the DB's are supposed to cover.  I played the game of football  and I am a student of the game and I have some concerns.  It is not just about playing the run.  If he was playing the run then he made the reads incorrectly on multiple occasions.

Why is this so hard to you to understand? You game plan to the team you're playing
my god you just dont understand how football works do you? the Saftey has a game by game assignment, one day its to stop the run (like vs pitt) the other its to stop the pass (TBD) im not going to see it any other way because i know im 100% correct, you're 100% wrong. end of story. i really could'nt care less if you think you study the game, you clearly dont, i have 3 NC rings 2 as a starting DB, i think i know how football works.

is this concept really that hard to grasp? we played the S up because Sunseri is not a threat to beat you with the deep pass. we wont play the S up when we play a team with a QB who can hit deep passes. please stop acting like we will run the exact same D strategy for every single game.

Just asking.  With the safety playing out of position, I would target the long ball if I were coaching against us.

diffrent strategy for every team, obviously we wont play the saftey up if a QB can hit a deep pass
but if we are playing the safteys up it probably means you're QB has poor accuracy on his longer passes and you'll lose 100% of the time

The game plan vs Pitt was perfect if you knew anything about Pitt
Sunseri always has had problems with his long passes in college and Chryst is a guy who loves to run the ball and wear a D down

This poll is a joke. A knee-jerk reaction to beating Pitt. I personally would rather hear about basketball recruiting targets than football ones. Half of the football roster are transfers and jucos anyway that aren't even mentioned when recruiting threads are posted. There weren't many football posts until we beat Pitt now all of a sudden the bandwagon is full. You should be a fan of all YSU sports. Keep as one.

half? pretty sure about only 1/4th of last years class was Jucos or transfers, if that.

Boy if we start 5-0 theres no reason he wont be #1 with all if not the majority of 1st place votes

Doubt we take a QB this year, just took 2 last year and have Angle who's only a RS Soph
if we do take one we probably give Michael LaManna from St.Iggy the first look the way he's been dominating this year, and Browns only listed at about 6'0, i wouldnt call that decent size since HS more often then not over list players meaurements so he could really only be 5'10.

YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: Valpo thread!
« on: September 10, 2012, 09:34:03 AM »
It is all about getting to 7 Division I wins.  Valpo is better than the eventual Division II national champion in terms of getting you in the field.  Not in terms of getting better.

This year it is easy to have a different take with a win over Pitt, but if you open with a loss to Michigan State then go out and lose to Montana and Delaware out of conference, you need to go 7-1 in conference.  Go out and beat Valpo and Stony Brook and all you need is 5-3.  I agree its stupid, but App State and Montana last weekend is the exception.

The other consideration is that if YSU wants 6 home games a year and wants to play a FBS team for a paycheck, then both other OOC teams have to be at home.  Quality FCS full scholarship teams are not going to agree to a one year contract at YSU as they are facing the same situation.

A 24 team playoff field may some day result in a team with less than 7 Division I wins getting an at large bid - but until that happens we are going to see more of the same.

where does anybody get this bogus Idea it has to be a DII team? why does this keep getting brought up? id rather take the chance of losing and playing a potential playoff team and getting battle tested then possibly losing a star player to a season ending injury vs what is pretty much a DIII School

75
Ga Southern and Montana both lost this weekend we could be as high as 8th
but playing Valpo probably keeps us at 10
