Well it is almost gameday... Just over 12 hours out from the game! Guess we are gonna see how the guins are against good competition. Most likely will lose by a good margin but eh, go guins!
-
We have no. Chance. I witnessed the win at Pitt. Winning against a power 5 school like that was like winning a championship
That was Wolfords signature win at YSU. I really thought we would make the playoffs that year. We know how that went. I don’t feel we have nearly the talent we had then and he recruited some horses for the O line. Anyways I feel that will be the last win against a power 5 team ever. I expect Kentucky to take away the run game and force our D2 QB to pass!
.
Unless the YTOWN CONNECTION THERE calls off the dogs and doesn’t try to embarrass us.
Kentucky 56. YSU 14
-
UK -30.5 currently on DraftKings

I am trying to be optimistic, but I also have to be realistic.
I think UK will cover the 30.5 points spread. I doubt we will score 14 points unless they put in the 2nd & 3rd string players in the second half.

Good defensive stop! And if we didn't have that penalty would have had a 1st down.
-
We need to get these substitution mistakes corrected. All in all, good defense stops so far.
-
Why fair catch at the 5 ?
-
I agreed. Let it go into the end zone...
-
Too many mistakes
-
Offense is non existent I think the flood gates will open after punt was semi blocked
-
So far D is playing well. We need a big play on offense and some first downs here
-
Why are we running ball on 3rd down ALWAYS.
-
Our special teams is awful
-
Well, we need to play better on offense. Defense needs to rest some.
-
We knew offense will be a problem today. It will take a perfect game to stay close.
With that many mistakes in offense, we don’t have a chance. It wasted the good effort by D.
Need to keep the composure.
-
5 mental mistakes so far.
-
We clean up the mistakes and start playing offense I think we would be in this
-
This is what happens when your own coaches don't trust the QB to throw the ball.
-
They aren't trusting him to run the ball either
-
Offense looks like
A bad high school
-
Chief hit it in the nose. When we beat Pitt Hess had a decent game and if I remember right some good play calling.
-
The beginning to the end.
-
Coach didn’t want him to make mistakes in throwing the ball. The plays become predictable (like last year).
We are not going to able to run the ball. If you are going to let him pass, put somebody else in there.
-
This will be a classic example of the defense being on the field too much and wearing out. No offense at all!
-
Another run. Are you kidding me
-
We don’t have much of a play book it’s like let’s get it to #8 and say a prayer.
-
Well... The INT isn't gonna give them confidence to let him pass more sadly
-
I would sit Crenshaw, he is useless, I don't understand what they see in him.
-
I agree Crenshaw should be benched.
-
Punting has been a strong point prior to today. What a joke.
-
In fairness, we are playing a power 5, SEC defense. Haven't had much opportunity to hit an open receiver
-
It doesn't matter. We need to compete. And we are not right now
-
Would like to compete for sure. This is on the offense and play calling so far.
-
Kudos to the defense hanging tough being put in horrible positions. Offense is dog water
-
100% agreed chief. Hope to see some offensive adjustments in the 2nd half
-
This coaching staff is known for their great halftime adjustments so…….
-
Adjust in QB.
-
Not going to be kind here. Yes it’s an SEC team. Kudos to the new D coach give him a raise. Give a sh**bag to the offensive coach’s and the HC the offense playbook and game plan is not D1 grade. The QB experiment with Crenshaw so far gets. D-. We didnt devise a way to try to even be competitive let alone try to win. Someone said why can’t we be like Appy state or all the other schools we used to be beat that beat D1 schools and moved up. It’s called recruiting and good coaching and we lack both. Since Wolford we have slid so far . So far what I have seen with this guy. All BS so far. Changing culture etc. Then play to win that would be a start. This is like watching the titanic movie and the band is playing while the ship is sinking as the captain is drinking his cup of tea. So sad.
-
Well that should've been 6, yikes.
-
Should have challenged that!
-
That was a BS call. Possession in end zone is a TD.
-
I still cannot believe that wasn't ruled a TD
-
Last win against D1 school we had 24 first downs and Held the ball for 34 mins and had almost 400 yards of offense and used a trick play to score a td.
https://www.espn.com/college-football/game/_/gameId/322450221
-
This should be 14 to 28
-
This is so bad. Little league coaching staff.
-
Ugh
-
Really. 1st down on the 2 and we throw 2 times. That is horrible. Poor play calling. That’s pathetic.
-
Wow. Two fade routes in a row from the 2. Fantastic play call
-
Can we
file Phillips now?
-
The defense deserves better, Crenshaw is horrible
-
I see we still do not have an offensive coordinator! Three chances to run the ball in from that close, and he throws the ball with a first and goal. Blew our only chance to score probably!
-
Defense is playing amazing
-
Should have ran the ball. Only 2 or 3 yards.
-
Offense coordinator should be fired after this game if he is calling the plays.
-
SIU BEATING NORTHWESTERN OF BIG 10 IN THE 4TH. IT CAN BE DONE.
-
It definitely can be done
-
The defense has played amazing
-
Our defense?
-
That’s why I didn’t think Crenshaw is our solution.
Need to put somebody else in
-
Really proud of the defense. Kentucky kind of sleep walking thru this game. Too bad there's a pee wee offense on the other side of the ball coached by little league coaches.
-
24 to 17 SIU. MIDDLE OF 4TH
-
Could’ve been a decent game if coaches actually played to win. Defense played very respectable considering.
-
Crenshaw is horrible as a QB, we will never do anything with him in the Missouri Valley League
-
New qb in and we are driving. Hummmm.
-
Spoke to soon. We won't score anything. Shame because of lack of proper officiating, we were denied at least 6
-
Siu probably going to beat Northwestern. Double digit lead now
-
SIU up by 14 against Northwestern and
-
SIU can beat northwestern but we are supposed to continuously settle
-
Was never onboard with this coaching hire. Supposed to be a great l
Recruiter but we couldn’t find a D1 QB even with transfer portal. I quess what QB in his right mind would want to
Run this offense.
-
Really. 1st down on the 2 and we throw 2 times. That is horrible. Poor play calling. That’s pathetic.
I agree
-
Defense did a really good job, kudos to them.
QB play is not what we need, I am not seeing any improvement.
-
We will be competitive until we have another QB. Unfortunately, my earlier post came true…
UK will cover the 30.5 points spread and we will not score.
At one time, we have 7 QBs on the roster. But, we couldn’t find one who can play at our level.
-
The lack of a passing threat makes the run game so much tougher
-
No passing game leads to very few conference wins and no play-offs
-
Missouri State leading#10 Arkansas by 10 points here early in the 4th quarter
-
SIU best northwestern. Just STFU that it can’t be done. No excuse YSU can’t do it.
-
SIU best northwestern. Just STFU that it can’t be done. No excuse YSU can’t do it.
To be fair, there's a big difference between Northwestern and #9 Kentucky.
-
We should have score 2 TD's in the game. We have arguably the best RB in the FCS and we pass the ball on the goal line. The QB never looks off his his receivers, locks on to only one person and telegraphs his passes while having some of the absolute worst footwork without squaring his shoulders.and the receiver (small detail here) doesn't help to ensure the defender doesn't get the ball on the tip. We have an identity on offense. It's run the ball in every circumstance you should pass it and pass on every circumstance you should run it. I really don't know why we were running A&B gap power plays with our small but fast RB. They should have tried to get him into space and kept it honest with QB runs. That offensive performance and the special teams with 12 people on the field showed big time coaching issues.
I still think Phillips is the right guy for now. However, we are a year away, and the coaching will permit us to have head scratching losses once we begin to compete in the top end of the conference. They need to fix the coaching issues and there needs to be an intervention with the OC. He's clearly not capable of running a HS offense let alone a college offense in a competitive conference. Disgusting.
-
Power I agree. I still like Philips for head coach. I say we need a change at offensive coordinator though.
-
Power good insight. I’m still on the fence as Philips is a good recruiter. We had a great Recruiter who was one of the best in the country named Wolford. Is Phillips better I don’t feel he is at the level. I watched a lot of our conference playing the last few weeks and I still feel we are still not talented enough. Funny how Wolfords issue was defense and not finishing games but we could score points. Our issue seems to be the opposite now. But too be successful in this era you need a qb that’s accurate and can make his reads quickly and have mobility. You need to have a qb that can do at least 2 of those attributes to be successful our last Qb that had that was Wells and he got us to the finals. Crenshaw only had 1 of those. He’s an athlete period. Phillips needs to really go out and sell some kid that has those qualities quickly and get the offense fixed. If not we will never be more than a 4, 5, 6 win team with what is going on no matter how good the D is
-
YSUGO i totally agree with your comments
-
Wolford was an excellent recruiter and he had studs on offense. Defense was the issue. we got rid of him and Pelini won with his recruits. Plain and simple, Now we got rid of pelini and settled with Phillips. We are in Deep trouble with him as our coach. We are not the team we used to be and our facilities are in total need of update. Anyone agree?

Facilities in total need of update??? I am confused if this is towards a specific thing, because our facilities have gotten way better. The WATTS is a very impressive facility and Softball and soccer fields are nice. I guess I agree with your other points, but this one I'm not sure.
-
I didn't watch yesterdays game but i'm pretty sure Stoops kept their offense pretty vanilla. The guys with Youngstown ties seem to keep the game in check. Not to completely embarrass their Hometown team. In regards to the offense, the HC nor the OC has recruited any depth or weapons with the exception of the RB who appears to have fallen into their lap. The QB position is consumed by undersized or incapable athletes that are unable to stretch the field with their arms. They look serviceable against Dayton and the like but not MVFC worthy. For instance, we recently had a TE drafted in the NFL but yet ONLY had probably 300 yards receiving in a season. How does that happen? One clue, coaching!

We matched up well with that SEC line. We can win with a good QB. We now have depth. But we have now superstars on the LOS

Meant to write we have no superstars on the LOS

Good thing that you corrected that, Power. You had me worried about you for a second. 8)
I could not watch the game. From the comments I am assuming that the coaches again forced Crenshaw to act like a traditional passer which he is not and can never be. He can be valuable as a running qb who might become proficient with play-action passes. Expecting him to be anything else is unfair to him and to us. Why the offensive coaches can not see what we all understand is incomprehensible to me.
Before we become too depressed, take some consolation in the old football adage: run the ball and stop the run. NDSU is going to annihilate us. After that there is no reason that we cannot compete with the remaining seven opponents on our schedule.

We didn't convert a single 3rd down or 4th down. The defense played a stellar game. You couldn't ask them for anything more. Had they not been on the field the entire game, and we at least flipped field position a few times the score would have been much closer. I feel good about how the defense played. They have a lot to build on. It was very good defensive performance. The score was a result of bad offense and mistakes on special teams and offense that forced them on the field. Maybe we could have tightened up the coverage in the secondary, but our linebackers and DL held their own. The corners got exposed a little.
-
Our defense showed us that they can keep us in games. But we have to be able to something on offense and eliminate the mistakes on offense and special teams.
-
YO SHOW its mainly Stambaugh Stadium main side. it needs remodeled somewhat. Restrooms are so dimly lit.
Plus it seems like this seating in general needs to be general seats. Just my thoughts
-
Beeghly needs a remodel main court seating so 1980's. Bleachers
-
Pride, ok since we are talking Beeghly, and possible update on the main side of the stadium for football, I agree.
-
I thought our Defense played as well as they could. Our zone defense is lacking with too many holes for receivers, but the man defense is good in my opinion. Both would be helped with a better pass rush, but against a number 9 FBS team, you really can't expect that. Our D will be ok in my opinion, but they need help from the Offense, as does our team in general.
The Offense is lacking any passing threat. Unfortunately against a 9th ranked FBS team you can't expect our O line to give the QB lots of time. BUT our QB really stares down his primary receiver and is not all that accurate. If he is not going to be a part of our run game, Mitch Davidson would be a much better option in my opinion. Almost reminds me of the year that Hunter Wells was a forgotten QB, was inserted and we went to the NC game! Not saying that is in the cards this year, but in my opinion MD deserves a chance. And we lack a power back for short yardage situations like 1st and goal at the 2 yard line. No doubt we should have tried to run the ball on 1st down and forget the fade route in the end zone that seems to be our only pass play in close. Every team knows that by now. Reminds me of when Bill Narduzzi was the coach and he had his favorite play, a quick kick on 3rd down.
In summary our defense is good enough for us to win more games than we lose, but the offense needs to get going soon or we will lose quite a few games.
-
In other MVFC VS FBS games NDSU lost to Arizona, which is typically not a great program. Could be a sign that NDSU isn’t quite as elite as they typically are… but that might just be wishful thinking.
-
I watched the game. It is wishful thinking!
-
I watched the game. It is wishful thinking!
I did too, that fullback looks like a handful. I was just thinking in a typical year the Bison should beat a bad FBS team by 1-2 scores. But maybe Arizona is good
