Davis Named Horizon League Newcomer of the Week
« on: December 03, 2012, 01:11:06 PM »
Indianapolis -- Youngstown State freshman point guard Shar'Rae Davis has been named the Horizon League Newcomer of the Week for the period ending Dec. 2, the conference office announced on Monday.

Davis, a native of Grand Haven, Mich., was also the award's inaugural winner three weeks ago. Davis averaged 8.5 points, 7.5 assists and 5.0 rebounds this past week as the Penguins went 1-1.

Davis had 11 points and five assists in YSU's first loss of the season at Northern Kentucky on Tuesday. She then had a career-high 10 assists, seven rebounds and six points in YSU's 76-43 bounce-back win over Stony Brook on Friday. The 10 assists were the most by a Penguins freshman since 2001, and the 33-point victory was YSU's largest since 2006.

Davis leads the Horizon League with 5.3 assists per game, and she leads all conference freshmen in scoring, rebounding, free-throw percentage, steals and assist-to-turnover ratio. Overall, she ranks third in assist-to-turnover ratio, fifth in free-throw percentage and steals, 10th in scoring, 11th in field-goal percentage and 19th in rebounding.

Davis and the Penguins will be busy this week with three games in seven days. They play at IUPUI on Monday and at Cincinnati on Wednesday before hosting Wilmington on Sunday.
