Seems to me like they are dim on the field.  Any thoughts? Maybe just me but sure seemed that way.

Yes they were replaced then to LEDs to be in compliance with what ESPN wants for night games.

Correct - they were replaced during the Eric Wolford years as a direct result of an ESPN site visit in preparation for a playoff season(s) - nationally televised game(s).  As we all know, that never materialized under Wolfie.

Cost was over $600,000  back then.  No university money went into the replacement - all money was privately raised from donors and a six-figure contribution from Penguin Club.

Watched the game again yesterday and the lighting seemed dimmer than I would have expected

That is why ESPN or any network won't ever televise a night game here.   It seemed dim. Or Course we don't have to worry about that this year.
