Cameron Morse Named Horizon League Player of the Week

Indianapolis, Ind. -- Youngstown State junior Cameron Morse was named the Horizon League Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday (Feb. 13). He averaged 34.5 points per game and set a new UIC Pavilion scoring record with 44 points on Feb. 9.

This is the second weekly award of Morse's career and the first this season. He was named co-player of the week on Jan. 11, 2016.

At UIC, Morse tied his own career scoring high and set a career best with 18 made field goals, which also tied a Pavilion record.

Morse also tied his 3-pointers made career best with six against the Flames. He added four 3-pointers against the Crusaders.

For the week, Morse averaged 34.5 point per game and shot 43.1 percent (25-of-58) from the field, 40 percent (10-of-25) from 3-point range and 81.8 percent (9-of-11) from the free throw line.

Morse leads the Horizon League in scoring in league games with 23.7 points per game and second overall with 23.0 ppg.

Morse, who ranks eighth in the nation in points per game, ranks 19th all-time at YSU with 1,262 career points and needs 17 more to move into 18th place. He also needs 38 more to become the 17th player in school history to score 1,300 points in a career.

The Penguins play their final two home games of the year this week starting with a matchup against Wright State, Thursday, Feb. 16. Tipoff is slated for 7:45 p.m. at the Beeghly Center.
