Gamelier Named Swimming and Diving Assistant Coach

Youngstown -- In preparation for the 2010-2011 swimming and diving season, Kylie Gamelier has been named assistant swimming coach at Youngstown State University, Head Coach Matt Anderson announced Tuesday, August 24.

Prior to joining the YSU staff, she was the assistant swim coach and recruiting coordinator for Davidson College in Davidson, N.C. She also taught a Physical Education class, Fitness Swimming, where the students learned how to create dryland and swim workouts and was the Head Coach of Teen Fit.

Gamelier, who is a native of Cranberry, Pa., received her Bachelor of Science degree in Clinical Exercise Science from the University of Toledo in 2009.

While attending Toledo, she served as Performance Intern during spring 2009. Her duties included assisting the athletes with strength training, correcting form, editing video clips of their biomechanics, and testing the athletes before and after their workouts using the computer software, Dartfish.

In the summer of 2008, she served as a strength and conditioning intern at the University of Pittsburgh. Her job consisted of learning Olympic lifts and styles of strength training, correcting form, and developed different types of training circuits.

A four-year letterwinner, she was the first swimmer in the history of the school to qualify for the Division I NCAA tournament and the Olympic Trials. She was awarded Most Valuable player of her 2008-2009 season and The Toledo Athletic Department's Senior Female Athlete of the Year.

She also set individual records in the 100 yard breaststroke, 200 yard breaststroke, and 100 meter breaststroke and relay records in the 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay.
 
 
Program Earns CSCAA Scholar All-America Team Honors

The Youngstown State swimming and diving program has been recognized by the College Swimming Coaches Association with the CSCAA Scholar All-American Team honors for the 2010 spring semester.

The Penguins had an impressive team grade-point average of 3.42 during the spring semester.

YSU also received the honor following an impressive performance in the classroom during the fall 2009 semester. The Penguins had a 3.37 combined team GPA during that time.

To earn CSCAA Scholar All-American team honors, a program must maintain a minimum of 3.0 GPA for the semester being recognized.
 
 
Hill Concludes NCAA Zone Diving Experience Placing 36th in Three Meter

West Lafayette, Ind. -- Youngstown State freshman diver Casey Hill placed 36th in the three-meter competition at the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships at the Purdue Aquatics Center on Saturday afternoon.

In her six dives on Saturday, Hill scored 225.50 during the preliminary round. The top 18 from the prelims advanced to the afternoons finals with the top eight from that group advancing the NCAA meet.

Hill, who finished 40th in the one-meter event on Friday, was making her first appearance at the Zone meet.
