Leveto Sweeps Diving Events at West Virginia

Morgantown, W. Va. -- Youngstown State senior Kalyn Leveto won both diving events for the sixth-straight meet, but the Penguins fell to West Virginia and Duquesne early Saturday morning.
Leveto posted a lifetime-best 3-meter score of 307.57 to win the event by nearly 60 points and paced the Penguins to a sweep in the 1-meter with a tally of 267.45.
Erin Carter picked up a win against Duquesne in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:17.10 while the 400 freestyle relay quartet of Missy Wiese, Sarah Porchak, Jordan Dunn and Brittany Senn finished first against West Virginia in 3:47.98.
Erin Mazzant finished second in 1-meter diving against both squads with a score of 207.67 and third in the 3-meter with a 207.30. Brittany Senn placed second against WVU in the 100 free in 56.49 seconds while Sarah Porchak finished second against Duqusne in the 100 back with a time of 1:03.53.
The Penguins will be off for more than two months for Winter Break and their training trip to Nassau, Bahamas. They will play host to the Akron Zips on Jan. 17.
 
 
Blagg Breaks 200 Breast Record Against Cleveland State

Youngstown -- Youngstown State senior Danielle Blagg shattered her own school record in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:30.69 as the Penguins fell to Cleveland State 124-113 at the Beeghly Natatorium on Friday evening.
The Vikings overcame a Penguin sweep in both diving events and two other YSU victories by grabbing wins in nine of the meet's 13 events.
Senior Kalyn Leveto won the 1-meter diving event with a score of 262.90 and the 3-meter board with a tally of 268.55. Erin Carter won the the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:11.34 while the 200 freestyle relay of Brittany Senn, Jordan Dunn, Missy Wiese and Carter finished first with a time of 1:41.19.
Wiese, Senn and Katy Malys each swam lifetime-best times in the sprint freestyles. Wiese placed second in the 50 free in 25.34 and second in the 100 free by just .01 seconds with a time of 55.44. Senn clocked in with a third-place time of 25.54 in the 50 and a fourth-place time of 55.78 in the 100. Malys was fifth in both events, finishing with a 25.84 in the 50 ad a 56.35 in the 100.
Carter added a second-place finish in the 200 individual medley in 2:12.50 while Lynea Harrill finished second in both diving events.
Earning third-place finishes for the Penguins were Jordan Dunn in the 1,000 free (11:00.70), Becky Bertuzzi in the 200 free (2:00.88), Erin Mazzant in 1- and 3-meter diving and Julia Darling in the 200 IM (2:20.85) and 200 breast (2:36.28).
The Penguins will travel to take on West Virginia and Duquesne in Morgantown, W. Va. on Saturday at 9 a.m.
 
 
Leveto Garners Horizon League Athlete of the Week Honors

Indianapolis -- Youngstown State senior diver Kalyn Leveto has been named the Horizon League Women's Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week, league communications assistant Kyle Smith announced.
Leveto won all four of her events last week in meets against Ohio and Clarion. Against Clarion on Sunday, the Warren, Ohio, native defeated the reigning Division II National Champion in both diving events, winning the 1-meter with a six-dive score of 295.55 and the 3-meter board with an 11-dive tally of 457.05. On Friday against the Bobcats, Leveto posted a season-high score of 277.87 to win the 3-meter board by more than 31 points. She also won the 1-meter with a score of 243.75 at Ohio.
 
 
Leveto Wins Twice at Clarion Diving Dual

Clarion, Pa. -- Youngstown State senior Kalyn Leveto won both diving events as the Penguins competed at the Clarion Diving Dual on Sunday afternoon.
Leveto was dominant at the meet, winning the 1-meter event with a six-dive score of 295.55 and the 3-meter board with an 11-dive tally of 457.05. Her closest competitor was Clarion's Jamie Wolf, the 2004 Division II National Champion, who finished with a 259.45 and 440.50.
Erin Mazzant finished sixth in both events, turning in a 212.55 in the 1-meter and a 330.95 in the 3-meter. Lynea Harrill placed eighth in each with a 1-meter score of 195.95 and a 271.55 in the 3-meter.
Youngstown State will play host to Cleveland State on Friday at 5 p.m. in the Beeghly Natatorium.
