Casey Hill Named Horizon League Diver of the Week |

Indianapolis, Ind. -- Youngstown State sophomore diver Casey Hill was named the Horizon League Diver of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday. Hill qualified for the NCAA Zone C Championships last week in both the one and three-meter. Hill, a native of Bethlehem, Pa., became the fourth diver in school history to score over 300 in a 3-meter dive at the Clarian Diving Invitational on Sunday (Oct. 24). She earned a 308.80, taking first-place out of 16 divers. She also earned first place on both the one and three-meter dive events versus Niagara on Saturday (Oct. 23). Cleveland State's Carys Behn has been named the Horizon League Women's Swimmer of the Week. The Penguins return to action on Saturday, Nov. 6 at Marshall. |

Clarion, Pa. -- Youngstown State sophomore diver Casey Hill won the three-meter event at the Clarion Diving Invitational on Sunday afternoon at the Tippin Natatorium. Hill's score of 308.80 in the event already qualifies her for the NCAA Zone meet following the conclusion of the regular season. Hill won by 3.6 points over Clarion's Kayla Kelosky, who was second in the event at last year's NCAA Division II National Championships. Hill's score makes her just the fourth diver in school history to eclipse the 300-point mark. She placed fifth in the one-meter with a 234.75. Hill qualified for the zone meet in the one-meter on Saturday in the Penguins' impressive win over Niagara. In the one-meter, freshman Tricia Vallinger was sixith was a 229.55, senior Amanda Carpin was eighth with a 215.55 and freshman Breanne Horrigan was 14th with a 191.35. In the three-meter, Carpin was 10th with a 225.40, Vallinger was 11th with a 221.05 while Horrigan placed 12th with a 213.20. The Penguins return to action on Nov. 6 at Marshall. One-Meter Results 1. Swimming and Diving Improves to 2-0 By Defeating Niagara |

Youngstown -- The Youngstown State swimming and diving team brings its record to 2-0 as it won Saturday afternoon's meet against the Purple Eagles of Niagara University, 191-109. In the 200-yard medley relay, YSU's "A" squad earned first place with a time of 1:53.09. The team was comprised of Nishani Cicilson, junior; Angela Diorio, freshman; Laura Paz, freshman; and Kirstin Walker, junior. The "B" squad also ranked third with a time of 1:58.23. Their squad was Claire Reynolds, freshman; Sam Roberts, sophomore; Caitlin Cook, senior; and Alana Kane, senior. Roberts earned first place in the 100-yard breaststroke, swimming a time of 1:09.80. Liseli Baich, sophomore, came in third with a time of 1:13.98. In the sixth event, the 200-yard butterfly, Paz finished first with a time of 2:11.80. Cook took second in the same event, finishing 2:13.70. Cicilson finished in first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.70, while Kane came in second with a time of 25.74. In the 100-yard freestyle, Cicilson captured first place with a time of 54.79, and Kane came in second with a time of 56.10. Roberts snagged first place in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:29.51 while Diorio finished third with a time of 2:36.90. For the 500-yard freestyle, Walker took the top spot finishing with a time of 5:22.42, and in second was Brittany Vigar, freshman, with a time of 5:30.80. Paz finished in first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:00.64 and Cook took third with a time of 1:02.53. Top honors in the 200-yard freestyle went to the Penguins' "A" team, which consisted of Cicilson, Walker, Audy Grubbs, junior, and Kane, with a time of 1:41.60. The "B" squad brought third place for the Guins with a time of 1:46.60. On their squad was Paz; Therese Stevens, freshman; Baich; and Megan Ciampa, freshman. In the 1000-yard freestyle, Ciampa came in second with a time of 10:53.45 and Vigar finished in third place with a time of 11:06.12. Walker placed second in the 200-yard freestyle; her time was 1:59.46. In the same event, Grubbs took the third spot with a time of 2:02.61. Diorio swam to a second place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with her time of 1:02.84. Cook and Ciampa took second and third in the 200-yard backstroke with times of 2:18.57 and 2:18.59. Ciampa also took second in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:52.52. In the one-meter dive, Casey Hill, sophomore, dove for first place with a score of 267.52. As a result of that dive, Hill qualified for the NCAA Zone C Championship. Tricia Vallinger, freshman, came in second with a score of 248.02. Sweeping the first three spots in the three-meter dive were Hill, Vallinger, and Amanda Carpin, senior, with scores of 260.40, 216.75, 208.65. Youngstown -- The Youngstown State swimming and diving team defeated Butler 122-77 in its first home meet of the season on Saturday. The meet had 13 events, and the Penguins dominated the first five by winning each one. The meet started off with the 200-yard medley relay. The "A" squad consisted of Nishani Cicilson, junior; Angela Diorio, freshman; Laura Paz, freshman; and Alana Kane, senior. The Penguins finished first with a time of 1:54.22. The "B" squad finished in second with a time of 2:01.26. Their team was Claire Reynolds, freshman; Sam Roberts, sophomore; Caitlin Cook, senior; and Liseli Baich, sophomore. In the 1,650-yard freestyle, Megan Ciampa, freshman, came in first with time of 18:19.89. Kirstin Walker, junior, finished first in her event, 200-yard freestyle, with a time of 2:01.18. In the fourth event, the 50-yard freestyle, Cicilson pulled for first with a time of 24.97. In the 200-yard IM, Roberts finished first with a time of 2:17.65, also giving the Guins a strong lead. In the one-meter dive, Amanda Carpin, senior, finished in first with a score of 250.55. Finishing in first in the there-meter dive was sophomore Casey Hill. Paz, competing in the 200-yard butterfly, came in first with a time of 2:15.07. Cicilson also finished in first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 55.06. Cook took first in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:16.07. The first event of the meet that the Penguins did not score first in was the 500-yard freestyle, where Butler's Kathleen Brannen finished in first with a time of 5:28.44. Walker came in a very close second with a time of 5:29.72. Roberts came in first in the 200-yard breaststroke, finishing with a time of 2:28.48. The final event of the meet was the 800-yard freestyle relay. The women on the "A" squad were Walker; Audria Grubbs, junior; Kane; and Ciampa. They finished in first with a time of 8:20.87. YSU's "B" squad came in third with a time of 8:48.75. Their squad consisted of Therese Stevens, freshman; Cook; Rachel Harbarger, sophomore; and Brittany Vigar, freshman. The Penguins next meet will be at home next Saturday, October 23, at 1 p.m. against Niagara. |

Bowling Green, Ohio -- The Youngstown State swimming team opened the 2010-11 season at the BGSU Tom Stubbs Relays on Friday afternoon. The Penguins swam in a variety of relay events during the meet. YSU plays host to Butler on Saturday at noon at the Beeghly Natatorium in its first dual meet of the year. The meet featured YSU, Bowling Green, Akron and Oakland. The Penguins' best finish of the event was fourth in the 1,500-yard freestyle relay. YSU was fourth with a time of 16:31.12. In the 300-yard breast stroke, YSU placed fifth with a time of 3:35.50. In the 800-yard freestyle relay, YSU also finished fifth with a time of 8:13.92. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the Guins were fifth with a time of 1:43.61. In the 300-yard butterfly relay, the Penguins placed sixth with a time of 3:11.17. In the 300-yard backstroke, YSU placed sixth with a time of 3:16.02. In the 200-medley relay, YSU had a time of 1:54.35 to place seventh. The Penguins were sixth in the 300-yard butterfly with a time of 3:11.17 while they were also sixth in the 300-yard backstroke with a time of 3:16.02. Youngstown State has its first dual meet of the season on Saturday at Noon against Butler at the Beeghly Natatorium. |

The YSU women's swimming and diving team kicked off their season with the annual Red vs. White Meet at the Beeghly Natatorium on Friday. The Red team edge out White with a final team score of 120-114. Freshman Megan Ciampa won both freestyle distance events, junior Kirstin Walker won the 100 and 200 yard freestyles and sophomore Sam Roberts won the 200-yard IM and the 200-yard breaststroke. The White team of Angela Diorio, Liseli Baich, Nishani Cicilson and Walker won the 400-yard medley relay in a time of 4:14.70 to start the meet off. Ciampa won both distance freestyle events for the Red team with a time of 11:07.32 (1,000) and 5:30.86 (500). In the 50 freestyle, Cicilson set a meet record of 25.17 while taking first. Walker won the 100 and 200 free events. She had a time of 55.85 seconds in the 100 free and 2:02.54 in the 200 free both swimming for White. For the Red team in the 200 Fly, senior Caitlin Cook finished first with a time of 2:16.39. Roberts won the 200-yard IM (2:19.35) and the 200-yard breastroke setting a new meet record of 2:31.11. Freshman Laura Paz won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:20.05. Diving for Red, sophomore Casey Hill won both boards. Hill had a 271.55 in the one meter and a 246.75 in the three meter. The meet concluded with the White team winning the 400-yard freestyle eelay with Cicilson, Alana Kane, Diorio and Walker finishing with a time of 3:51.13. The Penguins will head to Bowling Green this coming Friday to compete at the Tom Stubbs Relays. |
Swimming & Diving Hosts Red-White and Alumni Meets |

The Youngstown State women's swimming and diving program will be in action on Friday and Saturday at the Beeghly Center Natatorium. The annual Red-White Meet is Friday at 5 p.m. while the Alumni Meet is Saturday at noon. Both events are free. The Penguins have 25 members on the current squad. Leading the way are returning record holders Nishani Cicilson, Samantha Roberts, Ashley Williamson and Caitlin Cook. Cicilson is the school-record holder in the 50-yard freestyle, Cook established a school mark in the 200-yard butterfly in 2009, Williamson set marks in the 100 fly, 100 and 200 backs in 2009 as well while Roberts set new standards in the 100 and 200 breast last year. Cicilson and Roberts each finished fifth at the Horizon League Championships in February. This year's squad will be high on newcomers with 10 additions to the squad (all freshmen). Leading the divers is sophomore Casey Hill. Hill is coming off fourth-place finishes at the HL Championships in both the one and three-meter event. YSU officially opens the season on Friday, Oct. 15, when it competes at the Tom Stubbs Relays, hosted by Bowling Green. The Penguins' first home meet of the season is Saturday, Oct. 16 at Noon against Butler. |
