Rupe Sweeps Sprint Freestyle Events in Marshall Dual |

Huntington, W.Va. -- Youngstown State freshman Megan Rupe won both sprint freestyle events and anchored the winning 200 freestyle relay Saturday afternoon at Marshall in the Penguins' first dual of the season. Rupe, a native of New Philadelphia, Ohio, out-touched Brittany Senn in the 50- and 100-free to chalk up 18 individual points. Rupe's time of 25.28 in the 50 free ranks her sixth in YSU history and the 55.06 finish in the 100 free ranks her eighth. Becky Bertuzzi won the 100 fly in a personal-best time of 1:01.99, and Julia Darling added a victory in the 200 IM with a time of 2:20.60. Diver Kelly Reese won the 1-meter board with a score of 223.51 and finished second in the 3-meter with a score of 218.78. Bertuzzi added a second-place finish in the 200 free (2:00.16), and Lara Munro placed second in the 200 fly (2:20.14). Senn posted times of 25.39 and 55.86 in her second-place finishes in the sprint free, and Olivia Arnold placed second in the 500 free (5:24.30) and the 200 IM (2:21.82). YSU's diving squad will compete at the Clarion Diving Invitational on Sunday. |
Red Team Wins Annual Intersquad Meet, Three Seniors Tabbed Captains |

Youngstown -- Youngstown State sophomore Olivia Arnold won three individual events to pace the red team to a 139-87 victory in the annual Red-Black Intersquad Meet on Friday afternoon. The intersquad scrimmage was the first competitive meet on the short course for many of the swimmers since the Horizon League Championships in February. Head Coach Matt Anderson also officially announced Becky Bertuzzi, Kim Hanley and Cortney Harless, the squad's only seniors, would serve as team captains for the second straight season. Arnold, who was named the swimming MVP last season, posted victories in the 500 free, 1,000 free and the 200 breast to finish with 27 points for the red squad. Senn swam the top times in the 50 free and 200 fly and Reese swept the diving events to claim 18 points apiece. Freshman Hilary Barrett also won the 200 IM for the red team. Bertuzzi won the 200 free and 200 back to collect 18 points for the black squad. Freshman Megan Rupe won the 100 free and placed second in the 50 free and 200 free. The Penguins will get their season underway on Oct. 13 at the Tom Stubbs Relays. |
