Dunn Wins Twice in Victory Over St. Francis

Loredo, Pa. -- Youngstown State senior Jordan Dunn won the 1,650- and 500-yard freestyle to highlight YSU's 129-68 over St. Francis (Pa.) on Sunday afternoon.
Dunn's time of 5:23.47 in the 500 was a season-best performance while her time of 18:38.40 in the 1,650 set the Stokes Natatorium pool record.
The Penguins won eight of the meet's 11 events, including the final four events and six of the final seven.
Senior Erin Carter also had a strong meet, winning the 200 individual medley (2:19.87) and leading off YSU's winning 400 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay. Freshmen Amanda Ladd, Sarah Porchak and Julia Darling each picked up their first collegiate victory to account for YSU's other individual winners. Ladd won the 200 butterfly in 2:20.03, Porchak won the 200 backstroke in 2:22.29 and Darling topped the field in the 200 breaststroke in 2:34.81.
Second-place finishers for the Penguins were Becky Bertuzzi in the 200 free and 200 fly, Katy Malys in the 50 free, Darling in the 200 IM, Michelle Von Duhn in the 200 back and Danielle Blagg in the 200 breast.
The Penguins will play host to the Denison Big Red on Saturday 1 p.m. in the Beeghly Natatorium. The Big Red finished third at the 2004 Division III National Championship.
 
 
Penguins Fall to Akron in Spring Opener

Youngstown -- The Youngstown State swimming and diving team was defeated by the Akron Zips 193.50-106.50 in the opener of the Penguins' spring portion of the schedule.
Three Penguins picked up individual victories as Becky Bertuzzi won the 200-yard freestyle (2:02.11), Brittany Senn won the 50 free (25.51) and Kalyn Leveto won 1-meter diving (271.20). Senn added a second-place finish in the 100 free (55.66) while Leveto placed second in the 3-meter board (236.02).
Jordan Dunn earned second-place finishes in the 200 free (2:02.78) and the 500 free (5:24.20). Also placing second for the Penguins were Danielle Blagg in the 100 breast (1:11.14), Erin Carter in the 100 fly (1:02.23) and Julia Darling in the 200 IM (2:21.32).
The Penguins will continue their season Sunday when they travel to take on St. Francis (Pa.) at 1 p.m.
