Canfield, Ohio -- The Youngstown State softball team picked up two victories at the YSU Fall Softball Invitational last weekend at McCune Park. The Penguins defeated California (Pa.), 4-0, and Robert Morris, 5-4, and dropped a 6-1 decision to Malone. Against Cal (Pa.), senior Lacy Bronson and junior Sarah Conklin each went 3-for-3 while junior Becky Hibner was 2-for-4. Newcomers Erin Schindler and Danielle Chase combined to fire a two-hit shutout over Cal (Pa.). In the Robert Morris game, junior McKenzie Bedra belted a two-out solo home run in the top of the sixth inning to lift the Penguins past the Colonials, 5-4. Earlier in the frame, Hibner, who went 3-for-5 with two doubles, doubled to center field to lead off the inning, advanced to third on Conklin's sacrifice bunt and scored on Jamie Fornal's sacrifice fly. Against Malone, Hibner went 2-for-3 with a double and Bedra belted her second home run of the day for the Penguins' lone run. The Penguins will play in the Kent State Fall Invitational, Sept. 23-24, in Kent, Ohio. |
