Youngstown, Ohio – Jamie Fornal, a native of Rochester, Ind., became the eighth recruit to sign a National Letter of Intent to continue her academic and softball careers at Youngstown State University, Head Coach Christy Cameron announced on Monday. “Jamie is another all-around good athlete,” Cameron said. “She is a very intense player and has a strong arm behind the plate and a quick bat. Her athletic ability will also allow her to play different positions for us as well.” A catcher, Fornal led Rochester Community High School to a 22-6 overall record and guided the Zebras to the Class 2A Regional Finals last season. Fornal was also instrumental in leading the Rochester Community volleyball team to the state finals and the girls’ basketball team to the 2003-04 state championship. A three-time all-conference selection (at shortstop in 2002 and 2003 and at catcher in 2004), Fornal was named the team’s Most Valuable Player with a .390 overall batting average and 22 stolen bases. She also recorded a .542 conference batting average. In her four seasons at Rochester Community, Fornal never lost a conference softball game. Fornal joins Shauna Barry, McKenzie Bedra, Sarah Berry, Bethany Hafely, Lacey Hess, Becky Hibner and Kelli Sheibley in the 2004-05 YSU recruiting class. |
