Youngstown -- The 2006 Horizon League Champion Youngstown State softball program has signed Cheryl Cale (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Waterson) Autumn Grove (Massillon, Ohio/Canton Central Catholic) and Erin Schindler (Sammamish, Wash./Eastlake) to National Letters of Intent, Head Coach Christy Cameron announced on Thursday (June 1). "We are very pleased to have been able to attract three outstanding players to our program," Cameron said. "All three have the athleticism to play different positions and will help us to continue to build our program." Cale, who can pitch, play first base and the outfield, was a second-team all-state selection and a first-team all-conference pick as a senior. At the plate, she batted .403 with four home runs and 19 runs batted. In the circle, Cale went 12-5 with a 0.98 earned-run average and 141 strikeouts in 129 innings pitched. "Cheryl is a very good and versatile athlete," Cameron said. "She swings the bat well and can pitch and play in the infield." Grove, an infielder/outfielder, batted .426 with 19 runs batted in a .721 slugging percentage as a senior at Canton Central Catholic. "Autumn is a hard worker and has a great knowledge of the game," Cameron said. "She has a big bat and could see action in the outfield or the infield." Schindler, a right-handed pitcher, went 16-6 with a 0.42 earned-run average as a senior. She also batted .308 this past season for Eastlake High School. "Erin has good movement on her pitches and has great composure in the circle," said Cameron. "She should come in and make a big impact." |
