Youngstown State women's basketball Head Coach Tisha Hill announced Friday that senior guards Lauren Branson, Heather Karner and Kira Mowen and senior forward Jessica Schloemp have been named team captains for the 2007-08 basketball season. "This is a great group of seasoned players," Hill said. "It thrills me to know that the leadership is in place with these four players." Branson, a three-year starter at point guard, ranks seventh all-time with 326 career assists and needs 51 more to move into sixth place. Branson also needs just 74 more to become the sixth player in school history to record at least 400 assists. Karner was named to the 2007 Horizon League All-Newcomer Team after leading the Penguins in scoring with 10.9 points per game. She also connected on a team-best 52 3-pointers last season, which is tied for 10th on the YSU single-season 3-point list. Mowen, a transfer from Illinois, appeared in 22 games last season and scored 23 points in 2006-07. Schloemp has appeared in 73 consecutive games and has played in 83 of a possible 84 career games. "Each one compliments the other and brings a wealth of experience to this team, Hill added. "The senior year is always a special one and I have no doubt that these four will assist in making this a very special season."
