Four postseason teams, three 20-game winners, opponents from the Big Ten and Big East conferences, eight doubleheaders with the YSU men's team and a renewed rivalry with a foe from a former league highlight the 2007-08 Youngstown State women's basketball schedule, Head Coach Tisha Hill announced on Wednesday (Aug. 15.) "We have assembled a very competitive schedule for the upcoming season," Hill said. "Having the opportunity to play teams like Cincinnati and Ohio State will give our players an edge competitively. "Also with the addition of Valparaiso to the Horizon League, our conference just got tougher and, I think, more exciting for our fan base." The Penguins open the campaign in the Empire State at Buffalo (Nov. 11) and at Niagara (Nov. 13). After a 10-day hiatus, the Guins head to Long Island for the LIU Turkey Classic (Nov. 24-25). Other schools in the classic include WNIT participant Long Island, who went 22-9 last season, NCAA Tournament participant Holy Cross and Albany. Three of the next four contests are slated in the friendly confines of Beeghly Center. YSU hosts Toledo (Nov. 29) in the home-opener before visiting St. Francis (Pa.) (Dec. 1) and returning home for matchups against Central Michigan (Dec. 5) and Miami (Ohio) (Dec. 8). The Penguins close out the non-league portion of the schedule with three in-state road contests - at Cincinnati (Dec. 15), at NCAA Tournament qualifier Ohio State (Dec. 19) and at Akron (Dec. 21). After 13 days off, the Penguins will ring in the new year and open Horizon League play by hosting UIC (Jan. 3) and Loyola (Jan. 5). A road trip through Wisconsin to visit Milwaukee (Jan. 10) and Green Bay (Jan. 12) is followed by a two-game home stand against Wright State (Jan. 17) and Detroit (Jan. 19). The Penguins visit Cleveland State (Jan. 26) before renewing acquaintances with new league member Valparaiso (Jan. 31) in Valparaiso, Ind., and squaring off against Butler (Feb. 2). The Penguins' doubleheader dates include Dec. 5 vs. Central Michigan, Jan. 3 vs. UIC, Jan. 5 vs. Loyola, Jan. 17 vs. Wright State, Jan. 19 vs. Detroit, Feb. 7 vs. Green Bay, Feb. 9 vs. Milwaukee and March 1 vs. Valparaiso. YSU hosts Cleveland State (Feb. 23) and Butler (Feb. 28) in single-game contests. 2007-08 Women's Basketball Results Day Date Opponent Location Time/Result Sun. Nov. 11 at Buffalo Buffalo, N.Y.
