Junior college transfer Tiara Scott (Denver, Colo./George Washington) has accepted a scholarship offer and Rachael Manuel (Grayslake, Ill./Grayslake) has transferred from Southern Mississippi to join the Youngstown State women's basketball team, YSU Head Coach Tisha Hill announced. Scott, a 6-foot forward from Western Nebraska Community College, has two years of immediate eligibility. She played in 58 games, helped the Lady Cougars to a two-year mark of 55-5 and averaged 8.5 points and 4.9 rebounds per game during her career. "Tiara brings a tremendous amount of athleticism at the forward spot," Hill said. "She runs the floor extremely well and is a proven scorer offensively. "She is a very aggressive player on both ends of the floor. It is exciting to get a seasoned player this talented during the late signing period." During the 2005-06 season, Scott played with current Penguin Heather Karner and averaged 7.8 points and 4.6 rebounds per game while shooting 47.3 percent from the floor and 79.6 percent from the free throw line. As a sophomore, Scott averaged 9.6 points and 5.2 boards per game while posting a field-goal percentage of .536 and a free-throw percentage of .847. Manuel, a 6-foot-3 center, will have two years of eligibility remaining after sitting out the 2007-08 season to fulfill NCAA transfer requirements. "I am extremely excited to have someone of Rachael's caliber and experience joining our program," Hill said. "She will add depth to our post play with a very versatile and competitive style." Manuel played 58 games over the last two seasons and averaged 12.8 minutes per game during her tenure with the Lady Eagles. Last season, Manuel played in all 30 games and averaged 1.2 points and 2.4 rebounds as a sophomore and posted 1.8 points and 1.3 rebounds per game during her freshman season. Coming out of Grayslake High School, Manuel was a three-year letterwinner, named to the Chicago Tribune's Top 25 Players and rated as on of the top 100 posts in the nation by The adidas All-Star Girls Report. "Adding these two players to a very talented group of returning posts will help ensure our success in the paint for the upcoming seasons," Hill added. |
