Cold-Shooting Leads the Penguins to 59-45 Loss at Butler |

Indianapolis, Ind. -- The Youngstown State women’s basketball team (7-19, 5-10 Horizon League) forced 22 Butler (13-14, 10-5 Horizon League) turnovers but could not capitalize and shot 28.3 percent in a 59-45 loss at Hinkle Field House on Thursday evening. Butler scored the first seven points of the game and jumped out to a 10-point advantage, 15-5, mid way through the first half. Velissa Vaughn hit a 3-pointer to cut the deficit to five, 19-14, at the eight-minute mark, after Jackie Closser hit a 3-pointer to put the Bulldogs back up nine, 25-16, Monique Godfrey hit a trey to bring the Penguins with six, 25-19, with 4:14 left. Youngstown State, though, did not score again until the 15:36 mark of the second half and trailed by as many as 19 points, 43-24, with 12:21 remaining. The Penguins used an 11-2 run over the next six minutes to pull within 10, 45-35, at the 6:12 mark and pulled with nine, 54-45, on a Ta-myra Davis lay up but could not pull any closer. Davis and junior Heather Karner led the Penguins with eight points apiece. The Penguins close out the regular season at Wright State, Saturday, March 3, at 1 p.m. |
