Perugini Named Preseason All-Horizon League First Team |

Indianapolis, Ind. – Youngstown State junior Jen Perugini was named to the 2003-04 Preseason All-Horizon League after a vote by the Horizon League head coaches, sports information directors and selected media, the League announced on Thursday. This is second straight year Perugini was selected to the preseason team. In 2002-03, Perugini was named to the preseason second-team. Perugini, who is one of only two juniors named to the first-team, led the Penguins in scoring and rebounding last season with 12.7 points and 8.1 rebounds per game last season. As a sophomore, Perugini led the League with an .890 free throw percentage and began the season making 29 consecutive attempts from the charity stripe. The 2002 Horizon League Newcomer of the Year also ranked second in the league with 1.3 blocked shots per game. Other first-team selections were Preseason Player of the Year Maria Viall from UW-Milwaukee, Ashley Schrock from Cleveland State, Loyola's Ciara Henderson, and Nancy Bowden from Butler. Under first-year Head Coach Tisha Hill, Youngstown State was picked to finish tied for seventh in the League's preseason poll. Defending League champion UW-Green Bay was selected as the favorite to win the women's basketball title with 219 votes and followed closely by UW-Milwaukee with 212. Loyola finished third in the preseason poll with 159 points. Five votes separated places four through six as Cleveland State tallied 127 votes while UIC garnered 125 and Detroit collected 122 votes. Wright State was picked ninth with 45 votes. The Penguins are in action in an exhibition game against the Premier All-Stars, Sunday, Nov. 9, at 2 p.m. YSU opens the regular season against Bowling Green, Saturday, Nov. 22, at 7 p.m. in Beeghly Center. |
