Penguins Stay In Title Hunt, Cruise Past Valparaiso
Valparaiso, Ind. - The Youngstown State women's tennis team picked up a 7-0 win over Valparaiso on Saturday at the Valpo Tennis Center. The Penguins conclude the regular season on Sunday at UIC with a win giving them at least a share of the league title.

With the win, YSU improves to 9-11 overall and 7-1 in Horizon League play while Valparaiso drops to 2-17 and 1-7. On Saturday, Cleveland State beat UIC 4-3 so the Vikings enter their contest at Valpo with a 7-1 league mark. Wins by both on Sunday would mean a share of the league title, but CSU would be the No. 1 seed in the Horizon League tournament. A CSU loss and YSU win would give the title to the outright Penguins.

But before playing for a share of the title on Sunday, the Guins had to pick up a win on Saturday.

YSU won all three doubles matches to take the point. At No. 1, Annina Brendel and Noelly Nsimba won 6-3. At No. 2, Dominika Lackova and Sofia Macias picked up a 6-1 win. At No. 3, Julianna Heino and Ana Stroe won 6-1.

In singles play YSU allowed the Crusaders to win just eight points in positions two through six. At No. 1, Lackova earned a hard-fought 6-3, 3-6, 10-1 win over Kathleen Hebble.

At No. 2, Brendel won 6-1, 6-2; at No. 3, Nsimba won 6-0, 6-1; at No. 4, Macias won 6-0, 6-2; at No. 5, Sahni won 6-0, 6-0 and at No. 6, Stroe earned a 6-0, 6-2 win.
