Brendel's Late Win Lifts Penguins Past Western Michigan
Kalamazoo, Mich. -- Youngstown State freshman Annina Brendel posted a three-set victory at No. 6 singles to lift the Penguins past Western Michigan 4-3 on Friday night at the West Hills Athletic Club.

YSU built a 3-1 lead by winning the doubles point and with singles wins Paula de Man at No. 1 and Marta Burak at No. 3. The Broncos tied the match by winning at No. 2 and No. 5.

Brendel dropped her first set to Kelsey King 6-1, before rallying for a 6-3 win in set two forcing a third-and-deciding set. The two players traded volleys back and forth, with King taking a 2-1 lead with a break. King and Brendel traded breaks until Brendel tied the match at 4-4. Brendel held serve to make the set 5-4, and was able to break King to win both her individual and the team match.

YSU dropped the first doubles match falling 8-2 at No. 2, but bounced back to earn wins at No. 3 and No. 1 to earn the point.

The Penguins have a busy Saturday playing twice in Fort Wayne, Ind. The Guins will tangle with Robert Morris and Chicago State before playing host IPFW on Sunday.
