Hagn, Mistreanu Win Consolation Final at River Forest Invitational

The Penguins took to the courts against opponents from Belmont, Butler, Morehead State, Northern Illinois, St. Louis, Valparaiso, and UIC (host) in the six-flight singles and three-flight doubles two-day event.
After dropping his opening match, Mistreanu won 6-4, 6-4 over St. Louis' Pat Kella and Morehead State's Ji Hoon Helo, 6-1, 6-4.
Hagn dropped his first match before winning his final two as well. Hagn beat Morehead State's Jack Swindells, 6-2, 6-1 and UIC's Alex Raa 6-2, 5-7, 10-5.
In No. 5 singles play, Max Schmerin won two of his three matches to finish third. Schmerin opened with a 6-3, 3-6, 11-9 win over Miguel Flores of St. Louis and knocked off Alex Waldmoe of Butler 6-4, 6-1 for third place in the bracket.
In doubles play, Dawoud Kabli and Hagn advanced to the championship match of the No. 1 draw winning their first two matches. The duo lost to Belmont 8-3 in the final.
The Penguins return to action on Sept. 20 at the U.S. Open Invitational in New York.
