Castiglione, Dowd, Mikovich Earn All-Horizon League Softball Postseason Honors
Indianapolis, Ind. -- For the second straight season, junior Miranda Castiglione has been named All-Horizon League First-Team in a vote by the league's head coaches, the league announced on Tuesday (May 5). Sophomore Sarah Dowd was named to the All-Horizon League Second-Team and Cali Mikovich was selected to the All-Freshman Team.

Castiglione, the 2014 Horizon League Co-Player of the Year, became the first Youngstown State player to earn consecutive first-team accolades since Jordan Ingalls in 2011 and 2012. The only other players in school history named to the first-team in back-to-back seasons were McKenzie Bedra in 2007 and 2008 and Tiffany Patteson in 2003 and 2004.

Castiglione batted .349 with eight doubles, three triples, four home runs and 29 runs batted in. She also set the Youngstown State single-season record with 29 stolen bases. Against Horizon League opponents, Castiglione batted .349 with three home runs, 13 RBIs and 11 stolen bases.

She also moved into a tie for seventh on the career home run list with 17 and needs just three more stolen bases to break the career steals record of 46.

Dowd, the 2014 Freshman of the Year and a second-team pick last season, picked up her second consecutive second-team honor after batting .329 with 11 home runs, six doubles and team best 42 runs scored and 33 runs batted in. Vicky Rumph (2012 and 2013) and Patteson (2004 and 2005) are the only other two YSU players in earned second-team laurels in back-to-back seasons.

Dowd tied the single-season home run record with 11 which was set by Bedra and Rochelle Vanyi in 2008. She also moved into a tie for fifth on the YSU career home runs chart with 18.

Against league opponents, Dowd batted .353 with seven home runs, 20 runs scored, 18 runs batted in and posted a .691 slugging percentage.

Mikovich batted .308 overall and ranked second on the team with seven home runs and 30 runs batted in. She also ranked third on the team with 28 runs scored and posted a .538 slugging percentage.

She tied for the team lead with 10 multi-RBI games tied for second with 13 multi-hit games.
