Late-Inning Surge Lifts Wright State Past Softball
Dayton, Ohio -- The Youngstown State softball held a 3-0 lead after five-and-a-half innings, but Wright State scored two in the bottom of the sixth and two more in the bottom of the seventh to escape with a 4-3 victory at the WSU Softball Field.

The Penguins fall to 6-13 overall and 1-2 in the Horizon League and Wright State improves to 7-23 overall and 4-5 in the league.

After four scoreless innings, the Penguins scored two unearned runs in the top of the fifth inning on back-to-back run-scoring singles by Courtney Ewing and Samantha Snodgrass to take a 2-0 lead.

In the top of the sixth, freshman Kelly Stowe led off the frame with a double down the left-field line and scored on double by senior Sarah Gabel, who singled and scored in the fifth as well.

After he Raiders got within one, 3-2, in the bottom half of the sixth, a lead-off triple and sacrifice fly tied the game at 3-3, and a single followed by two fielding errors with two outs led to the game-winning run.

The Penguins host Detroit in a rescheduled three-game series starting with a doubleheader, Tuesday, April 9, at 3 p.m at McCune Park.
