Softball Predicted to Finish Fourth By Horizon League Coaches
Indianapolis, Ind. -- The Youngstown State softball team was picked to finish fourth in the Horizon League in a poll of the league's head coaches, the Indianapolis-based office announced.

The Penguins received 30 points and finished behind preseason favorite Loyola with 48 points, UIC (39 points) and Valparaiso (37). The Ramblers picked up six of the eight first-place votes while the Flames and Crusaders each had one.

Following Youngstown State was Green Bay (22) at fifth, Cleveland State was sixth (20), Wright State  (19) and Detroit (9).

Last season, the Penguins finished fourth in the league and posted a 29-21-1 overall record, the most wins since 2004.

Head Coach Brian Campbell was named the Horizon League Coach of the Year in 2012.

The Penguins return senior Vicky Rumph, a second-team all-league selection last year. Rumph batted .344 with 13 doubles, four home runs and 35 runs batted in.

Sophomore Kayla Haslett was named to the Horizon League All-Newcomer Team after posting an 8-7 record in the circle. She also had four wins against Horizon League opponents.

The Penguins open the 2013 campaign against Drexel, Saturday, Feb. 16, at 10 a.m. at the UNC-Charlotte Tournament.
