Mitzel Leads on Day One of Bulldog Florida Invitational
Jacksonville, Fla. - Youngstown State senior Allison Mitzel is tied for first after the opening round of play at the Bulldog Florida Invitational at the Windsor Parke Golf Course.

Mitzel is tied with Central Michigan's Arielle Roberts and Southern Indiana's Anastasia Carter as the trio carded first-round scores of 76 (four-over par). Emily Dixon two shots back in a tied for fourth place after an opening round 78.

As a team, the Penguins are in third place firing a 320 on Wednesday. Southern Indiana leads the field with a 316 while Butler is second with a 318. Valparaiso is fourth with a 337.

Also the Guins, Aislynn Merling is 12th with an 82, Emily Rohanna carded an 84 and is in 20th place while Courtney Shutt is 25th with a 87. The two Penguins who are competing as individuals are Mia Barchetti who is 19th after an 83, Haleigh who is tied for 20th with an 84.

"We got off to a rough start today, but the team stayed patient and battled back well," Head Coach Nate Miklos said. "Allison had a fantastic round. She started with a double bogey and then settled down and played a great round of golf. Despite the rough start, we put ourselves in good position heading into the final round. This team continues to get better every week and tomorrow is another great opportunity to continue to learn and improve."

The final round will be played on Thursday.
