Holub Qualifies for 2013 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship
Youngstown State sophomore D.J. Holub has qualified for the upcoming U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship, which will be held July 15-20 at the Laurel Hill Golf Club in Lorton, Va.

Holub shot a two-round score of 147 on June 13 in Chesterland, Ohio, at the Fowlers Mill Golf Course and was one of two alternates behind Trent Karlik of McKees Rock, Pa. Holub was added to the field late last week. Tee times and pairings for the event will be announced at some point next week.

Prior to coming to YSU, Holub participated in the U.S. Amateur Championship in the summer of 2011.

Sophomore Bill Gaffney will compete in the New York State Golf Association Men's Amateur Championships July 23-25 at Schuyler Meadows Club in Loudonville, N.Y. Gaffney tied for fifth at the qualifier in Buffalo on June 26 at the Springville Country Club with a three-over par round of 74.

Holub and Bryan Yeo will be in action at the Ohio Amateur Championship at Brookside Country Club in Canton on Monday. Both qualified for the event in late May. Yeo fired a 73 in qualifying at Elyria Country Club while Holub's 77 at Brookside was good enough to get into field. Just shy of qualifying at Brookside were Penguins Brandon Pluchinsky, Steve Sveda, Mark Olbrych, Trevor Jones and Thomas Lydic.

At the Ohio Amateur on Monday, Yeo tees off at 2:20 p.m. while Holub is set to tee off at 2:50 p.m. Former Penguin Tim Morrow is also part of the field.
