Penguins Hold Major Scrimmage As Spring Football Nears Halfway Point
The Youngstown State football team held a 70-minute scrimmage on Wednesday afternoon at Stambaugh Stadium. Once again temperatures in the 60's greeted the Penguins for an outdoor workout, its third of six practices.

The practice started with special teams and individual work before a 40-minute scrimmage session. YSU tailbacks Sidney Sandidge and Tevin McCaster saw the bulk of the work in the backfield during the practice. Quarterbacks Hunter Wells, Ricky Davis and Trent Hosick also saw their share of action. Both Hosick and Davis could be tackled during the scrimmage.

Defensive ends Derek Rivers and Avery Moss had strong performances as did linebackers Lee Wright, Armand Dellovade and Jaylin Kelly.

Sophomore PK Zak Kennedy converted a pair of 37-yard field goals during the first portion of the scrimmage and the defense came up with two stops on fourth-and-short plays.

Wells connected with Isiah Scott on a 60-yard pass, but the drive ended in the red zone when LeRoy Alexander intercepted a pass at the goal line. Sandidge capped off a drive led by Davis scoring on a hard-fought three-yard run.

Hosick showed his dual threat capability keeping the defense off balance at times. Both Hosick and Davis showed they could take a hit as the defense popped the two quarterbacks on various occasions.

YSU will practice on Thursday then take a week off. The Penguins will return to practice on Saturday, April 2, following tomorrow's workout.
