Youngstown, Ohio – Freshmen running backs Martin Ruiz and Jody Webb each ran for more than 100 yards and the Youngstown State football team set a school record for total yards with 718 and defeated Morehead State, 67-13, on Saturday at Stambaugh Stadium.

With the win, the Penguins improve to 2-0 while Morehead State falls to 0-2. It also marks the 10th straight home win in September since Head Coach Eric Wolford took over the program in 2010.

Webb led the Penguins in rushing with 122 yards on 11 carries and three touchdowns while Ruiz ran for 117 yards on six carries with two touchdowns. Webb had touchdown rushes of nine, seven and 34 yards while Ruiz had scores from 14 and 41 yards.

The last time two players rushed for more than 100 yards in a game was in 2011 when Jamaine Cook (162) and Jordan Thompson (135) each eclipsed the century mark against Saint Francis (Pa.).

The Penguins' offense was well-balanced with 359 rushing yards and 359 yards through the air.

Senior Kurt Hess completed 16-of-19 passes for 282 yards with three touchdowns and six different players scored touchdowns for the Penguins.

The Penguins scored on their first nine possessions of the game and the defense limited the Eagles to just 291 total yards.  It marks the 20th time in 35 games under Wolford the Penguins have gained at least 400 yards in total offense in a game.

The 67 points scored are the most in a game since the Penguins put up 77 against Valparaiso in 2011.

Sophomore wide receiver Marcel Caver hauled in five receptions for 113 yards and a touchdown.

Hess, who posted the 19th 200-yard passing game of his career, was 7-of-8 for 90 yards with two touchdowns in the game's first eight-and-half minutes after throwing for just 73 yards with no touchdowns last week.

On the game's opening drive, Hess went 3-for-4 for 59 yards, including a 10-yard pass to Christian Bryan, who has now caught a pass in 24 straight games. Hess connected with Andre Stubbs on 3rd-and-goal from the five with the game's first score with 11:36 left.

The Penguins drove 54 yards in eight plays for their second score at the 6:28 mark of the first quarter. Senior Torrian Pace ran five times for 23 yards to set up the Hess-to-Williams six-yard touchdown pass.

On the third possession, after a seven-yard run by Stubbs and an incompletion, Hess hit Caver for 32 yards on 3rd-and-3 to the Morehead State 43-yard line and found Caver in the endzone to put the Penguins up 21-0 with 1:55 left in the opening stanza.

After a 14-yard rushing touchdown by Ruiz and Webb's first career touchdown rush, a nine-yard scamper, the Penguins led 36-0 before Morehead State got on the board. MSU's Austin Gahafer hit Kitaro Lewis for a 31-yard touchdown pass, but Luke Boyd's point-after attempt sailed wide left and the left the Eagles with a 36-6 deficit.

Torrian Pace's three-yard plunge with just 52 seconds left in the second quarter gave the Penguins a 43-6 halftime lead.

In the third quarter, junior placekicker Joey Cejudo connected on his first career field goal from, a 37-yarder, to give the Penguins a 46-6 lead at the 11:37 mark.

Gahafer scored on a three-yard run with 13:39 left in the fourth to make the score 60-13.

Webb's 34-yard scoring jaunt, his third of the day, gave the Penguins a 67-13 advantage with 11:20 left in the game.
