The coaching staff put an enthusiastic and knowledgeable group through various drills and skills during the four-hour event.
The children went through offensive drills the first part of the workout before learning about playing defensive techniques the second half of the camp.
After a warmup, members of the coaching staff, with assistance from some players, worked on the agility skills of the group. The kids raced through the star drill, worked on foot speed with with the ladders, jumped over and around the agility bags and worked on pop ups in the sand pit while dodging blocking dummies to give them a taste of what football is all about.
Then the wide receivers worked with coach Kurt Beathard, the quarterbacks worked with coach Shane Montgomery, the running backs with coach Eric Gallon and the offensive line and tight ends with coach Carmen Bricillo and coach Mark Mangino.
Then the group went through "Penguin Ball" before checking out a YSU highlight video and getting a tour of the Penguins' facilities in Stambaugh Stadium.
Following the break, the defense took over to work with the group. Coach Tom Sims worked on stance and pass rush techniques, coaches Joe Tresey and Glenn Davis worked on defensive back footwork and awareness while coach Ron Stoops taught linebacker toughness and proper tackling techniques.
The group concluded the day with more "Penguin Ball", a lunch in the football classrooms and listened to a speech from Head Coach Eric Wolford who thanked everyone for their great attitude.
The Penguins will be busy the remainder of the week playing host to the McFadden/Wilkins Kicking Camp on Sunday and then hosting All-Positions Camps from Monday-Friday.
