YSU Women Open 2013 Season Ranked 15th in Great Lakes Region
The Youngstown State women's cross country team was ranked 15th in the Great Lakes Region, in the preseason poll released by the USTFCCCA on Monday.

The Penguins are coming off a third-place finish at the 2012 Horizon League Cross Country Championships and that performance came without seniors Anna Pompeo and Samantha Hamilton.

Pompeo had a strong start to the 2012 campaign before being sidelined with a foot injury. Hamilton did not compete during the year and took a redshirt. In 2011, Hamilton placed third at the league meet while Pompeo was fifth. As a team the Guins were second.

Leading the way last year was junior Brittany Stockmaster. Stockmaster finished eighth at the Horizon League Championships while senior Monica Ciarniello was 11th. Junior Katie Heney finished 14th for the Guins last year who placed behind Loyola and UIC. The Ramblers are no longer competing in the Horizon League and are members of the Missouri Valley Conference.

YSU opens the 2013 season on Saturday at the Duquesne Duals.

The Penguins will play host to the Horizon League Championships this year in November.
