Boldon Steps Down as Head Women’s Basketball Coach
Bob Boldon has stepped down as head women's basketball coach at Youngstown State University to accept the same position at Ohio University.

"I want to thank Bob and his staff for leading our women's basketball program back to the high standards that our community expects," YSU Executive Director of Athletics Ron Strollo said. "The improvement that our ladies made on the court was evident, but they've also become one of the top academic teams in the country. Our facilities, support system and the community's involvement are the backbone of a very strong program, and I'm extremely confident that Youngstown State women's basketball is in a position to continue its outstanding tradition under the next coaching staff."

Strollo said a national search for Boldon's replacement will begin immediately.

The program showed signs that it was moving in the right direction in each of Boldon's first two seasons, and it made a giant leap forward in 2012-13. The Penguins went 23-10, finished second in the Horizon League and qualified for the Women's National Invitational Tournament. YSU entered the postseason ranking 81st in the RPI, and only two teams had improved their win total more from last season. The 23 wins represented the most since YSU had five straight 20-win seasons and advanced to the NCAA Tournament three times in the late 1990s. Youngstown State has also been in the WBCA Academic Top 25 each of the past two seasons and was sixth in 2011-12.

The Penguins will return four starters and all of their bench production next season while adding the services of four redshirts. Two of those redshirts are Division I transfers – Janae Jackson (Northern Illinois) and Latisha Walker (Xavier) – who will be eligible in 2013-14, and two more are freshmen.
