Harless Posts Quality Start in 5-1 Loss at West Virginia
Penguin Pitcher Russ Harless
Youngstown State starting pitcher Russ Harless allowed two runs in six innings, but the Penguins only backed him with one run and eventually fell 5-1 at West Virginia on Wednesday evening at Hawley Field.

Harless, making his second start of the year, surrendered two runs on seven hits without walking a batter in his six innings. The sophomore right-hander struck out three, and one of the two runs he gave up was a solo homer on the second pitch of the game.

WVU starter Brock Dykxhoorn won for the second straight decision, matching Harless with six innings but allowed just one run on three hits.

Taylor Munden homered in the first to give the Mountaineers the lead, and WVU looked to add on with two more hits in the inning before Harless escaped. He didn't allow another run until the fifth.

YSU's Drew Dosch doubled to start the fourth, and Neil Schroth doubled him in with two outs to tie the score. Munden was Harless' Achilles heel again in the fifth, leading off with a triple and scoring on a groundout.

Matt Frazer gave the Mountaineers a 4-1 cushion with a two-run single in the seventh, and Munden doubled in the game's final run in the eighth.

Munden finished 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBIs, and Ryan Tuntland also had three hits for WVU. Kevin Hix had two hits to lead YSU.

Three of West Virginia's runs scored on Youngstown State's bullpen. Josh North allowed the two runs in the seventh, and Nic Manuppelli allowed the run in the eighth. WVU's bullpen allowed two hits in three scoreless innings.

YSU will start a three-game series against Valparaiso on Friday at 3 p.m. at Eastwood Field.
