Baseball Picks Up Win Over West Virginia
Winston-Salem, N.C. -- The Youngstown State baseball team scored six straight runs to break open a 4-4 tie and beat West Virginia 10-7 in its first of four games this weekend at Wake Forest on Friday afternoon. The Penguins lost 8-2 to the host Demon Deacons in their second game of the day.

Junior catcher Josh White was 3-for-4 and scored twice, and junior third baseman Drew Dosch scored three times for the Penguins against WVU. The baseball team became the fourth YSU program to beat a team from a BCS conference this season. The football and women's basketball teams beat Pittsburgh, and the men's basketball team beat Georgia.

Blake Aquadro allowed four runs on seven hits in five innings in a winning effort over the Mountaineers. Lance Horner and Alex Frey combined to allow two earned runs in four innings of relief.

West Virginia scored on a double steal with two outs in the top of the first, but Aquadro held the Big 12 newcomers scoreless over the next three innings. The Penguins took the lead in the third with two runs on two hits and two errors. Mike Accardi led off with an infield single, advanced to third on an errant pick-off attempt and scored on an eventual throwing error by the catcher. Dosch came in to score the go-ahead run on Phil Lipari's two-out double.

The Penguins then went up 4-1 in the fourth on Accardi's first home run as a Penguin, a two-run shot with White aboard. The Mountaineers tied the score with three runs on four hits in the top of the fifth, but Dosch got the Penguins back on top when he led off the bottom half with a triple and scored on Kris Moules' ground out. That kept Aquadro in line for the win.

YSU then scored five times in the seventh on four hits and with the help of four WVU errors. Three runs scored on errors on bunts, and the only RBI of the inning came on a Marcus Heath infield single. The Mountaineers scored a run in the eighth and two in the ninth before Frey got a strike out to preserve the 10-7 win.

Youngstown State struck first in the game against Wake Forest when Accardi scored on Dosch's RBI single in the first, but Wake Forest scored three runs in the bottom of the first and built a 5-1 lead through seven innings.

Heath singled in Accardi in the eighth to make it a 5-2 score, but the Demon Deacons added three runs in the bottom half for the final margin.

Accardi was 3-for-4 and scored both runs for YSU against Wake Forest, and Dosch was 2-for-4. Starter Ryan Krokos allowed three runs on five hits and four walks in four innings, and Erik Okleson was charged with five runs in four innings of relief.

The Penguins will West Virginia again on Saturday at noon. They'll wrap up the weekend against Wake Forest on Sunday at noon.
