Bowling Goes 4-1 to Start 2018-19 Season
The Youngstown State bowling team won its first four matches and finished its first day of competition in the 2018-19 season with a 4-1 head-to-head record.

The Penguins led the 20-team field in total pinfall after three matches with 2,708 pins. Their pace slowed down over the last two matches, and YSU finished Baker play in 10th at the Bud Whitman Memorial. The two-day tournament is taking place at Berks Lanes in Sinking Spring, Pa.

Youngstown State began the season with a 904-824 victory over Molloy, and an 875-788 win over Howard followed. The Penguins then posted their best score of the afternoon in a 929-900 win over Caldwell, and they outscored the Cougars by 77 pins over the final three games to rally. YSU defeated Penn State-Behrend 753-689 to improve to 4-0, and it fell to Mount St. Mary's 951-799 in the final match of the day. Mount St. Mary's finished the day 5-0 and leading the field in total pinfall.

The Penguins will compete in five traditional matches on Saturday as they conclude the opening weekend of the season. Play will start at 9 a.m., with the Penguins competing against No. 24 Kutztown.
