Youngstown State senior setter Val Jeffery registered the 3,000th assist of her Penguins career on Saturday in YSU's 3-0 loss at Green Bay. The set scores were 25-21, 25-21, 25-22.

Jeffery had 32 assists in the match to increase her career total to 3,005. She is the fifth player in program history to reach 3,000 and the first since Karla Everhart in 2008.

Jeffery added a team-high 10 digs against the Phoenix. Lori Vanbeek led the offense with 14 kills and five blocks, and Sam Brown finished with nine kills.

Megan Powers posted 13 kills for Green Bay, which registered a .324 attack percentage.

Green Bay did not trail in the first set, and YSU rallied from an early 8-1 deficit to get within one at 14-13.

There were 10 ties and two lead changes in the second set, and the Penguins led by four at 14-10 following a Sarah Varcolla kill. Green Bay scored six of the next seven points to go up 16-15, and YSU did not regain the upper hand the rest of the set. The final tie was at 17-17 on a Vanbeek kill, and YSU was within one later at 22-21 after a Green Bay serving error.

The Phoenix built an 18-11 lead in the third set before YSU climbed back with a five-point spurt on Aleah Hughes' serve. A Brown kill got the score within one at 22-21, but that's as close as the Penguins would get.

Youngstown State will have a pair of matches at Beeghly Center next weekend. The Penguins will host Wright State on Friday at 6 p.m., and they'll take on Valparaiso on Saturday at 2 p.m.
